Icey boxes for storage?

Im looking to add some portable storage into my system. I've been looking at the icey boxes with maybe a 80gig ide maxtor or seagate.

Has anyone got this setup? What's the performance like? Could i stream movies/mp3's from it?

i was planning on using a seagate barracuda ide, as they are nice and quiet.

Reckon it'll be ok to play mp3's etc off them?

Can you format/partition the drive while its in the case?

Sounds like its worth a purchase then. How fast are the transfer rates?
