getting a second SSD soon

basically looking to use it entirely for games and having my existing SSD [160gb intel x25m] free for OS and Apps.

question:

i have tried raid before when i had a pair of x25m 80GB in R0 and whilst the performance was immense, it did degrade within a month noticably.

looking ideally to put the drives as individual volumes on my new X58UD7

would it be best to put the drives on the ICH10 intel controller or is the SATA6 controller the best one to go for?

has anyone tried this, comparitive benchmarks would be very welcome and appreciated.

thanks

If the new SSD is SATA6 (ie. like Crucial C300), put it on the Marvell (which apparently works well with the Microsoft driver in AHCI mode), the Crucial C300 also performs well on the ICH10R, but it does present a bit of a bottleneck for the C300 high reads, if SATA3 (ie. another Intel X25-M G2), put it on the ICH10R...

I've used 2 x 80GB X25-M G2 in RAID0 as well, but I did not suffer from the same kind of degradation as you did, not sure why that was, but I also ran them as 2 single volumes on the ICH10R and both gave full performance on it...don't know if I have any benches of that though...

What about normal SATA3 drives, for example raid-1 / 0, should we put them on Marvell or ICH10R?
I've got them on the P6X58D-E's Marvell controller, seems to work well so far...
