I was just wondering if anyone out there has got an Icy Box NAS enclosure.

I ordered one the other day along with a Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB drive and then read somewhere that there's compatibility issues with Samsung / Western Digital drives.

Can anyone confirm this?

Also, is it possible to just run one HDD from the enclosure?

(Wasn't sure if this was the correct section or not, but here we are)

There were some compatibility problems to start with but with the new board versions (1.2 - if yours is anything earlier you can send it back to raidsonic and theyll send you a new one, but if you just bought it, then take it back) and a firmware update specifically for this problem it should all be fine.

and yes you can run just one hard disk in the enclosure. (although there is a single disk version so why not just get that one? it's cheaper)

Can you let me know if this works, I just got (yest) my ICY BOX 4220 and WD Green 1TB which were on the safe list at time of ordering, now they are not and it wont recognise there is a disc in there.

With the F1's being on special I would see if I could swap for one of them if they work.

I have board v1.2 and the latest firmware 2.6.3.1

It's working.

Thanks for the help guys!

Thanks for the feedback, will try and get a swap for the cheaper samsung f1. Hope it stays for you, older boards had a habbit of drives going missing after you put all data on them

enable some of the servers, you have FTP for net stuff. Sure you can also wack on a web server or something to give you web access?

For ur speeds is that via wireless or all wired?

Surely the IP for accessing through FTP is local.

All wired. 2MB/s might be wrong - I couldn't really make out the number the files were uploading so fast.

Have a look round here (wiki) and there is a link to the forum in the wiki as well. English side is very limited, if you can read german I think you will find more support on the forums but there is a english sub board on there.

FTP is for over the net, Samba is for windows network (LAN)

Iv just got this with 2 Samsung F1 tTB drives, works fine (after firmware update to 2.6.3.1) and I have 1.2 board version.

Is there any way to monitor the disk temperature? any utility (I see from the 4220 wiki there is some linux maddness you can do to view this but thats a bit beyond me).

Any info helpful.

can't find temp on the web interface so the linux madness is the only way!

can't wait till someone designs 3rd party firmware for this thing it will make it ten times better.
