Recently bought it an Icy Box with eSata and a 750GB harddrive to go in it. Now when it's connected to my PC via eSata and I turn it on it doesn't automatically become useable, should it? Can I fix this?

Edit: Mobo is MSI Neo2-FR P35

Are you using AHCI?

I'm going to say no as I have no idea where to look for it. Is this a BIOS option?

I don't have to restart my computer, but I do have to go device manager, scan for hardware changes, then it finds it.

Edit: Just went into BIOS and found AHCI under RAID, stupid question, but - Does that mean that I need to run my harddrives in a RAID array?

I did try and Vista just restarted on the boot screen, I take it I need to install drivers when I first install Vista and have it set to AHCI when I install vista?

There is a workaround for Vista to let you do this but I can't remember what it is off the top of my head.

The other option is to use Hotswap! which is a wee system tray app which gives you a shortcut to the "scan for hardware changes" and a safe removal option.

I basically set up the same thing with a shortcut to Device Manager with rescan in the target line.

The problem I have is that when I change the option to AHCI it doesn't load Vista at all, it shows the boot screen for a couple of seconds then restarts.
