Hi,

Well I just purchased an Icy Dock mb455spf 5 bay internal SATII enclosure and all I can say is its fantastic :)

it takes up 3 x 5.25 bays (no problem as I have a full tower case) and allows you to install 5 Hard Drives, I'm going to buy a hardware RAID controller next time I'm in the U.S.

Installation was an absolute breeze and fitting the drives into the caddy is simplicity itself.

It has allowed me to get those hot discs out of the body of my case and route everything up into the top of the tower, haven't checked my temps yet but it can only be a positive IMHO.

What a great product, OcUK should definately get these.

PS I'm in geek heaven, lots of little LED's flashing away when the discs access :D

Interesting, I've been considering the smaller 3-bay (in 2x5.25" bays) mb-453spf.

these are not trayless like the ib-169sk, but on the other hand the trays/carriers are interchangable with the MB559US-1S, which I already have. OcUK doesn't seem to stock spare trays, which is a pity.

Hmm...

Edit: Oops, realised this thread is just over a year old :p

headrat - i've been looking into getting one of these. Any chance you could post a few pics.

Also, how is it noise wise? Any fans etc? How are the temps of the drives?

It has a 120mm fan on the back so the drive temps should be okay and it could always be changed to your favourite make of fan. The smaller three drive unit has an 80mm fan.
One thing to check is whether your case has any supports for the 5.25" drives as these can stop the bay fitting in the case. I hit this with my Eclipse 62 so have an IcyDock MB235SPF sitting here, doing nowt. Interestingly, the MB454 seems to have grooves down the sides to cope with this but the MB455 doesn't.

I contacted Icy-Dock a week or two ago asking where I can buy extra trays.
I got a reply saying that the closest place that stocks these is in Germany.

Real shame. :(

oh well! I have an eclipse so i guess one of these isn't what i want.

I remember having an issue of custom PC a little while ago, and on the back cover there was an advert for an external sata caddie which held something like 4 drives and was esata/usb. Any ideas what i might be talking about because i can't remember the make or model. I think it may be exactly what i'm looking for.

I'm currently looking at getting a couple of these for my coolermaster stacker (original) are there any problems with fitting these does anyone know?

I want to try and free some space up in my case so to aid cooling and fit more drives in.

How are the fans on these? Is it worth changing it for a different fan. I want to have as much airflow as possible for as near to silent as possible.

I managed to get some spares from the UK. A websearch should help you.
