I've just been given one of these by my mate and just need to know how to connect it to my PC as it's only got the SATA connection. My MB is the DS4 Rev 1.0 so will I need an esata pci card to make it work?

You can either go with a PCI card with it's own controller but an easier option if you have a free mobo port is to use a PCI bracket port which connects the internal port to the outside world.

Thanks for that. I just happen to have all the kit required so I've tried this. The drive works fine if I switch the enclosure on before starting windows xp but if I switch it on after windows has loaded the drive is not recognised. Do I have to change anything in the BIOS for it to be recognised?

Sorry for gate-crashing, but I'm in a similar situation. Bought an esata Seagate Freeagent, and can't get windows vista to reconise it. Any help would be welcome :)

I spent most of yesterday trying to get this drive to "hot swap" with no luck. I can't see anything to change in the BIOS settings either. Is it because it's a standard sata connection on the enclosure? I believe the esata connections are an "I" shaped connector and the sata connections are an "L" shaped connector.

Just an update to say I've got it working now. I re-installed the gigabyte sata drivers and used the purple usb motherboard connection and it now recognises the drive when xp is running. Happy bunny now :)
