I have a SATA-II drive and this enclosure and when I try and connect it to the mobo (an ABIT KV7) over SATA cable it wont work. If I connect the drive directly it works but not in the enclosure. The controller is only SATA-1 capable so I had to put the limiter on to get it to work directly but doesnt work in the enclosure anyway.

Any suggestions?

I got mine working over Sata now thanks to jbloggs. I can now use it either way but need to swap which connector the drive is on inside. Its a shame that you cant just easily swap between interfaces but i dont think im gonna be swapping them that often.

On another point how hot-swappable are SATA drives? Should they come up with 'delayed write failed' messages like when you unplug a usb drive without doing the remove hardware thing in windows or can you literally just unplug them?

Cheers

Should I have a safely remove hardware option for a sata drive?
I know you have to do it for USB drives but i cant find any option for a sata drive.

Cheers I guess I wont try and use the hot-swap option for the drives. Neither my old desktop with the sata controller that doesnt even support speed negotiation nor the newer controller in my other computer show the safely remove hardware option for my sata drives.

How much of a performance hit is there if you disable write caching? To be honest I dont really need there to be great performance from the drive its mostly videos that I will be reading not writing.

On mine computer i only get the option for the USB IcyBox not the internal SATA drive. Havnt looked at the options for when its connected over sata yet. Its set as 'Optimise for quick removal' now so that means I can just unplug it anytime I want. Is that right?
Does it also mean that data integrity should be better as the wont be any half written data if the is a power cut or aanything?
