ID this yacht/boat?

What costs so much, is it the salaries of all the staff?

Combined with running costs (fuel, water, food, champagne, caviar, sun cream), maintenance, berthing fees, passage fees, training for the crew.

A billionaire once said that quickest way to become a millionaire is to buy a yacht.

just need a lottery win..
... o wait that isn't enough :(

I used to work for yacht owners of these yachts... some of them would cost £m per month to just run, let alone buy. Bear in mind you have comms, staff, food, mooring fees, consultants, contractors, fuel, electricity, water etc... to pay for.
some of these yachts have anything from 4 crew to 30+. It's not a cheap business.

The one in the OP is a relatively small yacht, but will still require a crew to operate.

Some of the captains of the larger yachts and chief engineers were on healthy 6 figure salaries with hefty bonuses... the down side, you're at the beck and call of the owner, but life is fairly stress free, unless you're doing a refit, or maintenance.

Been on a few crossings doing sea trials, a great time of my life, but not tenable as a family man or if you like a bit of stability.

There is something fascinating about the idea of owning a super yacht, if I ever came into serious money that would be my marquee purchase.

Regularly follow the Youtube channels mentioned here, certainly seems like the life.

If I was 20 years younger I'd probably look into work as crew too, getting paid massive amounts in comparison to your average role, see the world. Granted its one hell of a tough job by all accounts, but would be an experience.

Being a slave for some rich person?

Being a slave for some rich person?

I was a slave for some rich person for two years. It taught me more than I'd ever have learned doing a "regular" job, and as a brucie bonus, I got to go a few places all over the world on both of his private jets, drove his GLS63 as my daily, visited more cities than most other folks in the world and pretty much didn't have to put my fingers in my wallet for two years solid. I basically got to enjoy most of the perks of his lifestyle, without all the stress (and trust me, this guy is on his phone 24/7). I was fantastic.

The Phoenix is still parked in St Katharines docks. Here are a few time lapses of it maneuvering around:

Not sure if a typo or just big headed :p

I'd love a boat, but as mentioned, the purchase is one thing. Running something like a 30yr old sailing boat would probably be pretty costly vs what i'd be happy to spend. There are times i begrudge getting my car serviced! We went on one in Spain last month and i'm sure the owner said he'd paid around £20k just to get the deck re-done.

In Corfu a few years back and saw an insane looking superyacht pull into the bay. I googled it and found that it was available to charter for only £800k a week.

I watch Harry from Harry's Garage (of EVO Magazine fame) and this guy has a literal barn full of rare exotic supercars. And even he, in his episode where he drove his £180k Jaguar down to his Yacht, explained that it was owned by a consortium because it makes no sense to own one individually (for this very reason).

I love Harrys Garage. I do wonder where all his money came from though to afford his house/cars as he has some expensive metal in that barn. Surely being an EVO journalist doesn't pay enough to afford all that?

I think he was born into quite a bit of wealth (Harpenden born and bred) and then made a fortune as a property developer. He then founded Evo magazine rather than just worked for it. But he ran the numbers side of the business so presumably was paid healthily for a long time.

He also owns a massive farm - he actually has a Clarkson-esque farming channel too which I found the other day, called Harry's Farm!

This guy is a captain on some mega-yachts, he used to captain Dilbar too. He has some fantastic insight on the industry, well worth a watch
For God's sake, Jim, he's an engineer, not a captain... at least according to him - Engineering Systems Man.
Pretty dang sure he's never captained any vessel, let alone Dilbar, either.

Hopefully the next royal yacht won't look like some floating gin palace and have a modicum of decorum in its appearance. I wonder if Andrew's alleged indiscretions would have been dismissed had he been aboard Brittania in international waters? I believe a precedent may have been set previously by those of some renown enchanted by wanton young women, but distrustful of the varying age laws on dry land....?
