Far Far Away!
Hi there, I just bought a little adapter similar to this:

Example

It has a power connection, SATA TO IDE Connection and another Connection IDE TO SATA.

I have a few old IDE harddrives lying around from my old computer builds and know theres some old data on them that I wouldn't mind going through.

I've plugged all the necessary cables in, but nothing is coming up in BIOS or My Computer.

Is anyone familiar with these and know what might be causing HDD's not to show up?

Thanks

Ensure the pins on the HDDs is set to master, then the BIOS should be able to pick them up.

Sorry admin for posting in wrong section firstly.

I have set the HDD to master, but it still doesn't seem to register it.
Do I need to change any options in the bios?

I can hear the HDD power up too.

Thanks

If it doesn't work and the IDE drive is set to master, then unfortunately you're one of the unlucky people who can't get it to work. These adapters are pretty much hit and miss. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

Another alternative is to buy a PCI IDE controller card?

Hmm thought as much. Are the pci to IDE any good, I did check some out, is it a bad idea to go for the cheaper PCI to IDE*?

Not sure, but if it's just for accessing files it should work fine. Seems to be the best way considering you have a few IDE drives and not one :p.

Well I'll be dammed. I am 100% sure i tried MASTER, but it has worked now!

Well, this one IDE drive has, only another 3 to go lol.

Thanks again for your help, I may post again if something else pops up!
