sorry if i have put this in the wrong place.

I shut down my pc last night and when i came to use it today i get a BSOD as soon as windows XP Pro has just finished loading the black screen with the windows logo

my set up is
Asus A8N Sli deluxe
amd dual core 4400+
2 gig ram
8800gts 640mb
80gig IDE Hard drive (Maxtor I think)
Win XP Pro

I have been messing with it all morning and i have found if i plug a sata hard drive in and boot i dont get a BSOD but if i put an IDE Drive in a do.

I have tried reinstalling windows on the ide to see if that made a difference but it didn't.

can anyone suggest anything that i can do or if anyone else has had a problem like this. The system was working great i dont no what has happened i havent installed or changed anything all i did was read my email and read the news.

Thanks in advance

I have managed to be able to boot the IDE Drive into safe mode, but when i try to boot normaly i still get a bsod, i cant see what the bsod says it flashed to quick, i have tried various setting in the bios, i have disabled/ enabled all the sata inputs, taken out all the DVD roms, reduced the amount of ram i have and strill a bsod any help with this matter would be great

If you can get it to boot by attaching another HDD then do so. Once it's booted right click on My Computer and pick properties, on the advanced tab there's an option for Startup and Recovery settings, go in there and uncheck the automatically restart on system failure option. That will at least let you see the blue screen error.

It sounds like the system is BSODing when it loads the IDE driver but the error will confirm that.

Unfortunately a Stop 7E is a generic error which can be tricky to diagnose. Is there a device driver file (*.sys) mentioned after the stop error parameters?

nope nothing, i tried a different hard drive (another ide) and i get the following error

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

STOP: 0X0000000A (0X00000000, 0X00000002, 0X00000001, 0X865217E6

i have read this error is to do with nvidia drivers, but the hard drive i get this error with only has xp pro on it, no software or drivers for anything yet

OK, i Have sorted it, a stick of my ram has broken, upon removing it the system boots fine in normal mode and in safe mode, i would never have thought a gig of ram would have caused so much trouble, anyway thanks for your help
