hi guys, the question is in the title. i have 2 ide hdd's in my machine, bought a small third to back work upto and then disconnect from the mobo as a hard / safe backup. Anyway i have to 2 current drives on one ide cable going to the only ide port on my mobo.....except there is the floppy on still free. So can i run this other hdd off there??

No, it's a floppy port, it looks like an IDE port but it's 34 pin rather than 40 pin and only supports a pair of FDDs.

If you want to add another IDE HDD then you're after a PCI IDE card or a USB external enclosure, the latter being better as you can turn it off without having to shut the PC down.

EDIT: Do you not have SATA ports on that mobo?

I use the USb option for my back ups its great as you dont need to go in the machine and just have it plugged in while doing the back up or restore for that matter
