IDE HDD Temps?

Hi, I'm wondering if IDE HDD temps are generally higher than SATA drives? The reason being I've got a IDE HDD and the temps rarely rise above 44C, and I also have a SATA HDD in a different PC and the temps are on average around 34C~.

Do IDE drives generally run hotter than SATA drives?

Not really. It depends on the speed it spins, how the casing was made, and the cooling the HDD is receiving. The temps on your drives sounds quite normal anyway :).

Internally they're more or less the same. As said, speed, position in case, case cooling etc.. play a big part. Older ides did run very hot in the early 7200rpm days but i doubt we're on the same page here when it comes to the age of your IDE drive.

Ok, thank you all for your help.
The HDD is positioned at the front of the case with a 120mm intake fan right in front of the drive bay. However, I need to get rid of this IDE drive and stop using it for the OS, what I'm thinking about doing is getting a WD5000AADS to replace it, and then use the IDE HDD as a backup solution.

The WD5000AADS is also supposed to be quiet, cool and reliable and from the reviews I've read, it looks as though it's living up to that.

The Samsung Spinpoint F3 is a better drive. In fact, it is one of the fastest 7,200RPM SATA drives available.
