Can anyone recommend an ide to sata converter - I have an old ide drive that I need to get files from (an old XP system I can't be arsed to try and network with my new W7 machine).
My new machine is SATA (2/3) only. I've seen 'converters' online but they seem to have varied reviews.
Do OCUK have anything like this?

Suggestions welcome.

I've found the IDE-SATA converters to be quite flaky and would recommend a IDE/SATA to USB adapter.

I'd echo most of the above. Back in the day when we were first changing over the ones that were a small black block that fitted neatly in the back were fine (if you find anything looking like that, it's probably worth a punt) most of the modern bare board ones are pretty poor though.

USB to IDE would be shockingly cheap I'd think.

Personally I'd probably throw a tenner at a Dynamode USB 2.0 To SATA/IDE cable or something similar. Single cable, can plug any drive into it, give it power and hook up via USB. It'll work for this and be a handy cable to have in the spares box :)
