IDE to SATA

Just bought a IDE dvd drive (for the ram drive option) and an IDE to SATA converter that attaches to the back of it. Installed the Promise Fast Trak 376 driver from the original disc,as instructed in the board manual .
I then attached the drive via a SATA cable and re booted the pc.When it started loading the bios screen I noticed that it did not detect the drive at all and in windows its not there either.
I have had a look in the bios but cannot see any settings if any that I should change
I'm using a Chaintech Zenith Ultra 7njs which is nforce2 and Sata1 and windows XP pro+sp2.
I know it's a long shot but any ideas?

I'm pretty sure the promise controller doesn't support optical drives over SATA, it's a common problem with the early SATA implementations.

Just my luck,I thought it was going to be something like that:(

you would have been better of picking up the SATA drive by Samsung

Unfortunately the Samsung doesn't support DVD RAM,which is why I went for the Pioneer.
I don't even think anyone does SATA drive capable of writing the RAM discs?

Ok well I'll give that a go,just want to get rid of the IDE cables really as it's a bit congested around the back of my g/card.It's almost level to where the IDE cables attach to the board.
So do I need the Promise Fast Trak 376 driver installed?
And do I need to enable the Promise Raid function in the Bios or am I barking up the wrong tree!!? :)
