Hi I have just purchased a new SATA Hard Drive to replace my old IDE drive, I will be using Norton Ghost to copy the files on the IDE C Drive to my new SATA when it arrives, I am assuming I just install the SATA as normal plugging it into the Primary SATA slot and ensuring it is set as the slave drive, and then start up and run Norton Ghost copy HArd Drive facility and when that has run just shut down and remove the old IDE and set the SATA to Master.

Am I right in my thinking?

You're pretty much there. There's no such thing as masters and slaves with SATA, it's one driver per cable so no need to set roles etc. If you make sure that the SATA controller is set to single drive mode (might be called Legacy or IDE emulation depending on the BIOS) then you should be able to Ghost everything across without any issues.

Just make sure that the BIOS boot order is correct both when you first add the SATA drive in (should be DVD then IDE drive) and when you remove the IDE drive (should be DVD then SATA drive).

from memory - my old ghost 2003 hated sata - so check the version no. of yours just in case

thats why i went acronis in the end

but with ide ghost 2003 was very good
