Can I get a converter cable for IDE to SATA?
Im planning a new build and do not want to buy a new hard drive becuase I have tons and tons of recordings on it that I cannot backup due to lack of space.
My current one is a WD 240Gb IDE drive.

Yes. I've just ordered and received one myself. A google search for "ide to sata converter" is your friend. :)

so what happens if the drive dies.. you lose the lot!

can't skimp on backups

just buy a 500gb samsung for the new pc, they're about £45 inc vat

i'd install on the 500gb (don't plug the 120 in until it's all installed), then plug the 120 in, and copy any files you need from it.

format the 120gb drive, then use something like robocopy or synctoy to backup the newly updated files daily to the 120gb drive

takes seconds to setup for each folder (with subfolders) that you want doing

post back here if you want help with robocopy :)
