I noticed on some other up and coming pc forums that they have a feature that allows you to have your pc spec on a drop down list under your name. I think it would be a really good thing to add into this forum as i find this to be one of the best forums around to find info about pc parts.

I did just email ocuk about it as the makes of this forum may not read this post. But i think it would be a good thing to add in :)

What you guys think?

tbh with the performance issues that have been going on lately I doubt they will want to add anything at all.

I'm just glad to see search back! :)

So.... it would be ePenis+1 for those with 'uber' pc's?

Certainly, but it has its uses in the tech forums: rather than typing everything out each time, people just say "spec as per "My Computer" or whatever.

I quite like seeing what other people have achualy. I think to say it will just grow peoples Epenis is a very negative way at looking at somthing. If anything its better because people wont put it in their signatures and you wont see it unless you your self want to look at it. So infact those that wana show off it doesn't really benefit them.

Hmm... yeah I can see its usage in General Hardware and the like... but I doubt that many regular users would bother with it to be honest.
But then, if you want to display your Septuple Core, 7 and a half clinks of buzzwur, and two 8 something graphics cards in sly mode - computer... just type it in your sig?

Well, if it works the way i assume he's talking about, it's not visible unless someone chooses to look at it, so it's hardly an e-penis extension tool.

True... true...

All that being said, if there was one made... I would probably put mine in it anyway - so I can't really complain :o

You'd be better of just having a section in the user's profile with PC spec...perhaps even linking it someway to the store.

Part in the profile would make more sense...

I like the feel layout of OcUK very clean, tidy etc... If a drop down box (or similar) was stuck under everybodies name it might look a bit messy.

the way i've seen it implemented is as part of the drop down list that you get when you click on someone's name anyway, no extra visible clutter at all.

You know the forums i speek of.

Ive seen it on 2 or 3 forums now. Its very clean achualy. One of them you click on and it comes up with a list. The other you put your mouse over. Its just one extra word under your name and the font can be as big or small as ocuk want it to be. hardly cluttering.

Believe it or not the vast majority of users on these forums aren't computer geeks.

well, that depends how you look at things.

I would guess that there are as many people who post in hardware as anywhere else, just the people in GD wherever post more.

Just checked and at a glance, there are more threads in the Hardware forums than there are in the Lifestyle forums.

What I mean is that there are probably a similar number of regulars but the regulars in here post more per head as it were, as a lot of those hardware threads will be new signups who have signed up to fix something then not stuck about...

I'm too tired to explain much better :p

Granted, most people came here because they had a computer problem but that doesn't mean they want to shout their PC specs from a mountain.
In fact, we had a recent thread in GD about peoples computers and it was quite revealing.

Thining on it from a server perspective, it would be an extra query, something I presume OC have been attempting to minimize with the recent forum troubles ;)
