Ok i dont like dualshock controllers for fps games i just cant do it.

However with the upcoming release of Time Crisis 4 which includes the gun with it! :)

Why not have something like this where you can use the gun to shoot and aim ie mouselook.

and something like PEDALS at your feet for movement? So you can be standing up shooting and moving your arms and legs a bit anyway instead of sitting or lying down?

You mean similar to the Wiimote?

It has its disadvantages though such as how do you turn rather than just point at a place on the screen.

no not similar to the wiimote. Because in all FPS games you would have a gun as a controller.

to aim you would hold the gun and aim on the screen BUT NOTE it would not move the cursor it would move your aiming like mouselook (?) What i mean is the aiming is the same in PC games. When you move the mouse the screen moves and your aim moves. So im not talking about just moving the cursor (your x-hair) and your viewpoint not changing.

The viewpoint changes because your view changes. So this would enable turning.

To move forwards and backwards you would press one of the pedals at your feet.

ONE to go forwards (pressed heavily = SPRINTING)
ONE to go backwards.

NOW to SIDESTEP or move left and right perhaps press a button on the gun on the left and right sides ??

think people - this can be done! Maybe we can lobby console peripheral manufacturers for a device like this?

:D

OK, so you mean like metroid on the DS then?

This would be crap with a gun as the cursor because it just wouldn't feel like you're using a gun so you may as well be using a mouse/touchscreen/wiimote.

sorry i have no idea as i havent played metroid.

I dont know why it would not feel like using a gun because it would work exactly the same way you would aim a gun in real life. (ok maybe not EXACTLY heh)

Basically when you move the gun, the x--hair and your view moves. I dont see any alternative to that?

isnt it more immersive for a FPS if

a) the screen moves (ie your viewpoint and what you can see)

instead of

b) the cursor on the screen moves. But screen remains static.

but yeah i understand RE isnt a FPS.

yes actually it does :)

when you look up do you see the same view or do you see the sky/ceiling etc

when you look down do you see the floor?

and movement of your character would be handled by the pedals :p

Yes it can be done but it's nothing like holding a real gun.

If you point the gun down to look down the gun isn't pointing at the screen, unless the screen is attached to the gun somehow.

yes i see what you're saying. But the movement of the gun would be tracked to the movement on the screen. So when i look down with the gun (ie move the gun downwards) i see the ground in the game.

Possibly you would need to do a test beforehand to determine the tracking of the gun movement correlated with movement on the screen, maybe similar to joystick calibration utility but instead a tad more complicated. :D

I think this would only maybe be of benefit to those with large screen tvs maybe.

I'm confused by what you're suggesting but it seems to me that you're saying that if you point a gun upwards then your view changes. That's not the case - if I move my eyes (or my entire head) upwards then I see the sky, but if I just point a gun upwards then I could still be looking in the other direction.

for the sake of simplicity we should assume that wherever the gun aims, that is where you are looking basically.

Having it move the screen would not work, Kreeeee is quite right.

Think about it. If you want to turn 90 degrees clockwise, how would you move the controller? If you can answer that without me being able to pick out a glaring flaw I'll be impressed!

:Edit: ^ Exactly, the screen would have to be in sight at all times, thus would have to move according to where you aim your gun.

read my post about calibration. Why would the screen not be in sight at all times????

As long as calibration is setup correctly you should be able to look round 360 deg if you like.

This is in conjuction b)with the pedals (forwards and backwards)

and c) the 2 side movement buttons on the left and right side of the gun.

Obviously without b and c it is quite difficult. But with the combination of all 3 it is possible :)

Would it be possible to spin round in one direction multiple times?

not using the "gun movement" yes i can see where your going with that.

perhaps another button on the gun or on the pedals could do a 360 deg turn very quickly.

Obviously im just making this up as i go people. So dont be too critical ehh :)

im thinking about levels of immersion thats all. Would feel a lot more immersive to me using something akin to the method ive described.

That's nothing like how it would work in reality, because we're tied to a fixed point with the TV/screen. It would be the equivalent of moving my gun in real-life, and having everything in the world tilt around to accomodate it.

it would be limited functionality yep. For the kind of freedom you're talking about you'd need a VR headset probably. Unfortunately the price for the peripheral then sky rockets.

If it's the latter, then it's really no different to the method Wii FPS games use, just with a smaller bounding box.

it may well be, havent used the wii remote so ill take your work on it.
