Afternoon,

I'm in the process of ordering another HD. I currently have a 250GB Samsung spinpoint which I bought 4 months ago. I have 160GB in my Icybox for Backup.

I'm ordering a 250GB Samsung and I was just wondering if it should be fine to raid the 2 Identical drives. I know it sounds silly but I've always been under the impression that if I was going to RAID some drives it would be best to start from scratch with new drives :o

Could someone please carify/assure me the opposite :)

Hi

Referring to the age of the drives (if you did, if you didnt then ignore me) it doesnt matter, if ones 2 days old and 1 is one year old if they are identical model numbers they will work prefectly in RAID together.

There are some stories that if they are from the same batch number and all that, but tbh ive never bothered about that! Just get to the same size and model and always worked for me :)

I think you will have to format and start the RAID array from scratch, im not sure if you can build one and keep data that is already on the old drive.
