Ideal screensize for 2.5m viewing distance?

Dont worry he always gets like this. Next he'll be moaning that his new £800 TV isn't spot on, yet if it was the other way round (likely to be about audio) he'd be giving out grief cos your centre speaker costs less than £1k so why do expect it to sound good.

For some reason he assumes you are actually using dynamic at home.

you can still have dynamic constrast feature on in the Samsung Standard or movie mode aswell.

i am very surprised that somebody such as yourself cant see the blindingly obvious difference between even the best plasma and lcds. considering your attitude towards music and components, your attitude towards the visual side is frankly amusing.

I can notice the difference between the Samsung LCD and Samsung plasma, plasma does a better job but LCD is not lousy. I think my high quality native res, progressive sources help. Also spent a fair bit of time tweaking the Samsung LCD so it looks pretty much identical to Panasonic 28" CRT. And if I can live with a LCD then so will 99% of the general public. I can pickup out things on the LCD which the Plasma does better but it's hardly vomit inducing on the LCD.
I have a pretty good audio system, but I'd be happy with a lesser audio system as well. And the general public would find my lesser £1500 system superb too. Quite a few with flatscreens have Bose, so they can't be bothered with sound quality so why bother with video quality?

If you mean who am I telling, I mean you. Stock Samsung dynamic mode looks horrible, and this proves my point. Most people don't care so the issue of plasma versus LCD is moot.

No in dynamic mode a few processing options are enabled by default. To disable dynamic contrast in dynamic mode you need to go into SM. Yes you can have dynamic contrast enabled in movie mode but why would you want to?

i dont, they make no difference in the slightest to how well your display copes with dark images.

just no. my sony is perfectly set up as well as it can be and it cant match even a budget crt at the dark end, and ive not seen any lcd get significantly closer.

Well that's a black crush issue I don't think most other people will notice it. I did notice it. Seems the new Samsung LCD have improved this.
Of course a LCD won't equal CRT blacks that's impossible but for general TV PQ relative to image size, the LCD performs better without the annoying things that detract from CRT (flicker, twitter and other interlaced artefacts)

If people want video quality (Pioneer/Fujitsuhigh end plasma) then it only makes sense should put money into audio side as well. There's a couple of avf with Pioneer 6090 with Bose system and I just start to snigger.

The problem with a high quality screen is it costs quite a bit of money, considerbly more than what I can afford. £2500 on a Pioneer is out of the question. £1500 is really upper limit for each item, including TV.

My centre is expensive when new, but not what I paid for it. Only £350 (new £700) It's worth that £700 :-)

No, if I were to do that I'd buy a 17" Tevion. If the Samsung screens were buggy they're pretty good picture, if using offboard quality sources.

I'm going for a Pioneer 508XD next only because the amount of problems with Samsung LCD/Plasma.

Nothing wrong with that Samsung A556 PQ, apart from the blur problem also supposed to have posterisation but didn't use it for that long, just a couple of days.

I don't recall ever saying I used dynamic. This would make sense as I never use dynamic.

I've tried the Vincent settings using white balance and RGB corrections on the movie preset.

I need to tweak more

You should not use other peoples white balance/gain/offset values as they could be totally inaccurate. I copied the HDTV test ISF values for my M86 and looked out. I know the stock settings are a bit cool, but the HDTV settings were just too warm with incorrect whites.

I know, I just gave them a try that's all. I will play some more when I get chance.

I notice you also did the same so I'm not sure how you can criticise.
