Ideas for New Helmet

Hello,

Well I have had my Shoei X-Spirit TC3 for over 3 years now and I think I am due a change. My main issue with this helmet is the excessive wind noise I have to put up with that has only got worse after the recent purchase of a Naked Bike (Compared to my CBR 600). It has got the point where I am wearing Ear Plugs and its still quite noisy inside.

I am really out of touch with helmets and in my 7 years or riding I have been one who keeps the helmet for as long as possible so I cant say I have a wide range of experience with different makes and styles etc.

What im asking for is a helping hand for someone to push me in the right direction. All I want is a very good helmet for noise protection, no more race reps with fancy paint jobs this time round.

As for price I have my eyes set on the Schuberth C3, im just not sure if there is anything else by other makes that can give that helmet a run for its money...

Any advice is welcome:)

Thanks

I've been asking this as well. I'm tempted to go for an AGV as they have 25% off at the moment, I just don't know a quiet AGV, but I love the S4!

a good set of earplugs and you should be fine!

even in the schuberth youll need ear plugs to protect yours ears for long periods of time.

My bike is my only method of transport, I don't wanna wear earplugs every day. I have a HJC and don't wear earplugs and it's fine. Just really unsure about it as I don't know how 'loud' loud is as I've never worn any other helmet

Have a look at Shark Evoline, I bought mine as a cheaper alternative to the Schuberth stuff, for me its very comfy, quiet and looks pretty nice too.

Best off getting down to a HG or similar and try a load on!

Good luck

I have the AGV S-4 S and sadly i can tell you it is not quiet. For the price i.e. £189 when i bought it last year, it is not worth the price imo.

Thanks for the feedback guys :)

I think I will be trying on various different makes before jumping straight to the idea of a Schuberth. As I do most of my miles on a motorcycle I should really be wearing ear plugs no matter what helmet I wear.

I think the thing that sparked all this was the amount of padding and cushioning that was present in the Schuberth. To me my TC3 has a raw feel about it where as the Schuberth was like slipping into a nice arm chair. I will certainly check out the Shark Evoline as well, that one has really caught my eye with a much more comfortable price than the Schuberth.

I will try a range of makes on and report back with hopefully a new purchase soon! Just need to make sure I find the right one this time and not to go for a helmet on the basis that I think it will make me look awesome!

It's your hearing at the end of the day, but if you are doing more than a couple of miles on your bike or any high speed stuff then you need earplugs to prevent long term hearing damage irrespective of the helmet IMO. It may not sound particularly loud once you get used to it, but the levels are high enough to be damaging.

I must admit the padding in the evoline 2 isn't very impressive, I put my old hjc helmet on and initially found it much more comfortable! The never ending quest for the perfect helmet continues... maybe I'll have to buy a Schuberth myself eventually....

only heard good things about wind noise or lack of with schuberth's, I use an X-lite 601 and can tell you it's NOISY..lol earplugs are a necessity, I've done far too many years without them and my hearing has suffered :(

if you want quiet and comfortable, go for the schuberth, there isnt really any other that does the job as well!

The instructor who I've trained with the most has a C3.

Normally all the other instructors lids let in a load of wind and other noise as I can hear it over their mics as it activates when they aren't speaking.

Not once has his come on without him speaking and when he does speak there is zero wind noise. Radio's are all the same.

I have a Shoei Qwest which is very comfy. Unfortunately I wasn't paying much attention to the noise as I was riding pillion on the bike I was buying at over 100 leptons so was more worried about holding on than I was analyzing my lid! I don't remember thinking 'wow this is noisy' so it can't be bad!

The lids the riding school give us, now I think it'd probably be quieter to not wear one as the vents and shape makes so much noise when doing 70mph on a carriage way I can barely hear my ear piece!

I am quite keen to get a X-Spirit II,but have read they are quite noisey and the XR-1100 is a better road lid.
You are not considering an XR-1100?
