Hello....:)

I'm hoping somebody can give me a little advice on how to upgrade my PC to play some more modern games on high settings (doesn't have to be ultra settings).

I used to be a PC gamer back in the day but haven't really had time this past 3 or 4 years and use my desktop for mostly watching movies in the bedroom and music making. So, after all this time I'm a little out of the loop as to what's hot and what's not.

Anyway, here's my current rig:

Motherboard: Asus P7P55D Rev 1.02G
CPU: Intel i5 750 2.66ghz
RAM: G.Skill RipJaw F3-12800CL8D-4GBRM (2x2gb)
GPU: XFX GTX260 576mhz 896mb
PSU: BeQuiet Dark Power Pro P7 850w
HDD: 2 X Samsung HD103SJ 1TB
SSD: Crucial M4-CT128M4SSD2 128GB
Monitor: Samsung SM2494HM
Windows 7 Home Premium

I'll only be playing in 1080p. Nothing really hi-res.

I really want a new system but right now can't afford it as I've set some money aside for the new Nexus 6. So I have £250-300 to spend on upgrading. I'm thinking my best course of action would be to spend it on a new GPU and maybe some more RAM then buy a new mobo and CPU later on.

Is this the right way of going about it and if so, any ideas on what graphics and memory to get for my budget?

Any help much appreciated and thanks in advance. :)

New GPU and possibly some more RAM? Though ideally you'd first want a new GPU, so you're bang on the right track

What case do you have? So I can spec you parts that'll fit the case. Also, do you have a CPU heatsink? You'll want to OC the CPU too to get free performance gains :)

I might suggest a GPU upgrade and pick up a cheap cpu heatsink so you can overclock the balls off of your cpu. RAM is certainly a bit low for some of today's new games, but chances are your next build might be DDR4 and not compatible with RAM you buy today.

I agree with this, grab a new GPU and a heatsink. Possibly something like this

YOUR BASKET
1 x GALAX GeForce GTX 970 EX OC "Black Edition" 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (97NQH6DNB4TX) £259.99
1 x Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler £29.99
Total : £299.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Thanks guys. My temps were getting a little high these last few months anyway so was going to clean and put some new thermal paste on the cpu anyway. May as well put a better heatsink on there while I'm at it.

Never overclocked before though so a little apprehensive. :-)

@kefan77 Thanks for the recommend. Would take me slightly over budget but might get it if it's worth it. Out of stock at moment though.

Re Nexus 6: Yeah! I do like the new Moto X but supposedly worse camera. Plus, given one of my favourite films ever is Blade Runner, and being an owner of a Nexus One when they first came out, I've been looking forward to a Nexus 6 release :-)
