Maybe jalapeno but hard to tell sometimes with supermarket generic stuff
Nah, it was hotter and not as juicy as a jalapeno. Possibly a cayenne.
Its a standard red chili you can get in any supermarket, theres thousands of varieties and 100s that are so similar.

without contacting the supermarket it will be virtually impossible getting the exact variety, unless some one works in the business, I bet they all use the same. Non list the actual variety.

Thanks, I expected something higher up the scale, but it was surprisingly hot for what it was. Ah well, just as well I had some milk in the fridge!
I've had them in soup that some friends from the Caribbean made. It was enjoyable... just. Don't think I'll be eating a whole one any time soon though.
Raw scotch bonnet tastes really quite nice, almost like sweets or bubblegum. Then the heat kicks in.

Tbh supermarket chillies are incredibly variable in regards to heat. The Sainsburys red chillies vary from tasting like a red pepper to as hot as dishes I've cooked with naga chillies.

They do indeed have a wonderful taste just before the burn. My favourite chilli of all.
This is what I'm going with. I'm no stranger to hot food by any means and this was too strong to be right down the bottom of Scoville. I'm going with Cayenne too.

This is tesco they cannot sell anything higher than a scotch bonnet and in their stir fry foods they only put Cayenne peppers, plus went down tesco today and had a look and it is a Cayenne pepper it's in the ingredients on the back.
Ah, so my suspicions were correct [did you go down specifically to check?].
