I've been seeing a few of them around and no matter how many I get rid they keep coming back. They've almost a metallic look (possibly indicative of them being man made (or alien made) devices), are quite flexible and incredibly quick. I also believe they don't like the light as I never see them during the day and they only really appear if a room has been dark for quite a while.

Please put my mind at ease and assure me that they're not going to invade my orifices and take control of my mind.

Edit: In case you're wondering what the dirt is about it's a dustpan cum bug collection and removal device.

Lepisma saccharina, frequently called a silverfish or fishmoth is a small, wingless insect in the order Thysanura. Its common name derives from the animal's silvery light grey and blue colour, combined with the fish-like appearance of its movements, while the scientific name indicates the silverfish's diet of carbohydrates such as sugar or starches.

Sounds exactly like my insect alright, thanks very much!

Lifespan: 2-8 years, bugger that! I'll have to figure out where these damn things are coming from.

I haven't moved my collection of books yet to the new apartment thankfully but I do want to at some point in the future.

The major problem is that they could be coming from someone elses apartment though I do think they must be originating about the bathroom somewhere as that's where I've most often seen them and seems to be where they like hanging out according to the wikipedia page.

Yea Wiki and those other sites say they lay like 60 eggs or something in random cracks they find. So yea...will help you if you can find the source.

What's a cum bug? Or don't I want to know??

:p

Perhaps I should have hyphenated that:

Dustpan-cum-bug collection and removal device

Any better?

It's meant to mean that the dustpan serves a secondary role, in this case the collection and removal of bugs. I'm fairly certain my usage is okay (though perhaps the use of cum may not be the best idea in this day and age) but I'm open to correction if I'm wrong (I hate being wrong on the Internet).

Yeah I've never seen one of those in person tho know what they look like. Don'twwantto weither. Clothes, paper etc. Hardcore bug

They will be in the plugholes, or any damp areas like under the shower / bath. That is where they live. Had loads in an apartment I rented in France a few years back. No amount of boiling water or chemicals could get rid of them.

It is either a Silverfish or a baby Cybermat. If it is a Silverfish it will be harmless, they like to chew on stuff that contain sugars and starches. You can get powder to control them. If it is a Cybermant you've got problems.... run....

Right or wrong didn't really come into my post. I just read the word 'cum' and that sent my mind into juvenile mode. I'm sure your grammar was perfectly adequate ;).
