i have a raid5 array that includes a seagate disc

apart from physically looking at the disc (awkward position to get at - pc in attic) is there anyway of finding out the drive info to see if it is an affected one

seatools and windows disc manager won't see past the raid array

any ideas?

Someone posted a link to the Seagate disk checking tool a while back, but I doubt that would tell you either. It might so worth a try. I don't think anything else will tell you the firmware version.

already tried that - get 'fatal inquiry - program must end' when i try and get the drive info from seatools :(

looks like i will have to crawl into attic with torch camera and screwdriver...knowing my luck it will be the most awkward of the drives to get at too...

Did you manage to get the DOS version to check within the RAID array?

I ask because I have a RAID 5 array of Seagates and one of them's just started clicking. I've identified the drive with my trusty stethoscope (thanks whoever it was suggested that) but before sending it back want to verify that Seatools describes it as dodgy. I don't want to have to remove it from the array before then unless I have to.. but presumably if I did take it out the array, it wouldn't matter? It would just be on RAID0 until I put in a new one?

Cheers for any advice!

Raid 5 aye? Mark it as faulty, it'll be dropped from the array. Reformat it into a single partition, run seatools on that partition.

If faulty, rma it. If not (sounds unlikely), delete the partition and add it back into the array. It'll rebuild and proceed as before.

The array will behave the same as before, but will take longer to write to. I'm currently testing one of my drives from a raid 5, so the above is basically what I'm doing at present
