Identifying which version of Ubuntu this is?

I have an Ubuntu back up as a tar.gz which forms part of a case a colleague is working on. Is there any file within the Ubuntu structure which will indicate which version of the distro we have?

/etc/lsb-release

Yep cat /etc/lsb-release.
