The other half ordered a dress over a week ago, ready for her graduation. There has been no sign of the dress, as she was getting a little anxious. She graduates tomorrow. Anyway she was looking through the post yesterday from returning home by chance she was sorting the mail, who’s is who’s etc, and she noticed a scribbled bit of writing on the back of one of the envelopes, really small.

“Post in recycling bin”

She rushed outside to find the bin’s had been emptied and the post had gone. This morning she confronted the postman who confirmed he left the post in the bin MONDAY! And that it was stupid thing to do.

He was sorry, and pleaded not to contact the royal mail as he would lose his job. He played the guilt card on my girlfriend and she crumbled!!!!

She said she would try contacting the recycle plant etc to try get the dress back, as she would need it for tomorrow. (The sorting office have said "good luck" like finding a needle in haystack)

I am not happy with this, I want to contact Royal Mail and inform them of this, from my conversation with her a short time ago it sounded like he laid it on real thick about his job . Am I being too rash?

No, the dunce should lose his job and your girlfriend needs a few words. If he'd lose his job like that from the incident it's clear he's ****ed up before. Who's going to be the next to suffer from his incompetence? Nobody. It's your responsibility to ensure that now.

Well that was stupid. Just go out and get another dress if possible and claim it from RM. If that chap loses his job, perhaps he wasn't cut out for it anyway, sounds like he'd be a better bin man.

Report him. He didn't even follow the procedure of putting a card through the door, he just scribbled a note on the back of an envelope. What's to say he hasn't done this before with other peoples stuff? Hell, he might not've even put the dress in the bin and just nicked it.

Yep make him pay it.

Tell him it was around £100, either that or he loses his job.

It's not so much the cost of the dress ( She paid more than 100 for it, i think... ) its more the principal. she spent so much time had looking online for the "perfect" dress etc and now she has to have a mad rush in search of a new one.

Yes she has loads of things to wear but you know how women are, It has to be new!

ye i know what you mean

In that case report him .

His 1 goal in his job is to deliver the post, he has failed to do so and was lazy and stupid while failing, so now he must pay.

I work for royal mail, its always stupid crap like this that gets the company a bad name, dumping in bins is not allowed these days unless the home owner has officially requested it. I also would never leave anything without a card,in this case the guy has probably just ran out.

He will not lose his job by reporting him, unless he is on his last legs for other things.

my postman did this as well!

I noticed something scribbled on the back of one of our letters, surprised I noticed it at all since theres 5 people living in our house. I could even barely read what it said. Unfortauntly half of what I'd ordered must have arrived on a different date and he did the same thing and the bin was emptied. Only 5 pound worth of stuff off ebay that, but I would be livid if it was my graduation suit or whatever.

So he gave the gf a story and pleaded not to inform RM yet didn't offer to pay for it himself?

Hahaha, inform RM and inform the other half that she is stupid.
