Last night while heading to Warrington on the the Motorway, the heavens open up & the wipers couldn't clear the rain just smearing it to the point where i couldn't see a dam thing though the window, basically i was driving blind at one point & had to pull over onto the hard shoulder until it stopped.

Now I've not had the car long less than a week bought it from a dealer's, so they either put something on the windscreen like polish or wax or the wipers need changing badly.

In all of my years driving I've never come across this problem before, even with blades that need changing usually give enough visibility in the rain, let put it this way it probably put my life at risk last night.

I've noticed the rear window also doing it so i suspect they put something on the windows.

So what the best way of getting off whatever they put on the windows, and is it better also to change the wipers aswell?

I'd give them a proper clean first tbh, they might just be clogged up with crap - Just wash the window as you would normally that should take anything off, if not try vinegar

Autoglym fast glass is a really good cleaner, will cut right through any rubbish on the windows. But in an emergency use fairy liquid as its a de-greaser.

What you describe is typical of a car from a dealer who has just tried to get as much shine out of it as possible and used polish and or wax on the windscreen. However, it normally only takes a few passes of the wipers in rain to get rid of the water, and, in addition, if it had been a polish or wax, at speed, you shouldn't have had to use the wipers at all....

Clean windows thoroughly with a good glass cleaner (I hear white vinegar and newspaper is great for cleaning glass).

If you have a clay bar, use it to go over the whole screen. Then clean the screen again.

As for the wipers, give them a thorough clean - you can use glass cleaner, but I find using neat screenwash on a cloth gives them a good clean.

I used to use RainX on my windscreen, and while it was great at high speed, if you put too much on, using the wipers at night could cause visible smearing. I now use RainX only on side/rear/mirror glass and just make sure to keep the windscreen and wipers clean.
