I was just wondering if anyone uses them, and what they're like?

Currently using Zen, but I get tired of the way they just leave me on expired contracts paying one price when they have better deals available. They never inform me of the new deals.

I know that iDNet use some Zen infrastructure, but I was just interested in maybe trying them for two years, see if there is any difference.

Acquiss is another possibility, I suppose, but I consider them a tad expensive.

Many many many years ago I was with IDNet. I think it was when they first started out. I found their service and support was excellent. But I can't speak as of late. They seem to still have a good rating on Trustpilot.

Been with IDNet for 7 months, zero problems, speeds always what I’m paying for, pings are low, I’ve heard customer support is supposed to be excellent but haven’t needed to use it. This is with CityFibre, I’m sure OpenReach would be similar though since it’s the same ISP.

I’m with IDNet via Openreach

I haven’t had to use their support but as mentioned it’s supposed to be good

They aren’t the cheapest but I’m happy with them and like that the v4 and v6 assignments are static

If your motivation for moving is getting new offers every couple of years I’m not sure IDNet makes sense though, they don’t seem to do much if any promotional stuff so it would either be pricing stays the same or goes up each renewal

Aquiss is cheaper than IDNet but still a really good service. IDNet revert you to the 1 month no contract price at the end of your contract which is much higher than the in contract price. They apparently warn you a month before though so you can recontract before they start charging you the higher priice. Aquiss just carries on charging you whatever you were paying when your contract runs out.

It's more that Zen are annoying me by not keeping me informed so I am just looking to try something else. I'm not actually expecting iDNet to be any better, rather just interested to see how the grass is on the other side of the fence.

Maybe they are cheaper in your area, but in mine they are quite a bit more expensive. About 20% more than Zen for the mid-range package. iDNet are less than 7% more.

Yes, I am glad you confirmed that about iDNet. Zen also keep charging at the same rate when the contract expires. I noticed that iDNet had "out of contract prices" and wondered if that meant that they increased prices as soon as the contract ended. That's a real negative for them if that's the case. That's even worse than what Zen do.

From memory, IDNet use Zen's network, so whatever it is you are unhappy about not being informed about, you're therefore adding multiple new layers between you and notifications, generally that's multiple opportunities for you not to be informed, much as every ISP is seemingly at the mercy of CF when they decide to reboot the network or push changes with no notification.

TBH it does seem that iDNet are not offering anything that Zen don't, and possibly are worse when the contract runs out.

I know that iDNet say they concentrate on reduced latency, it would be interesting to find out, but I am not sure I want to sign up for a contract and then find out they are the same.

My parents have been on IDNet for... a decade now? They grew fed up of hopping around to whichever mass-market ISP was cheapest, and their occasional poor performance ("Youtube isn't loading!" and similar). For a few more £ a month, they moved to idnet, and it has been that kind of remarkable boring thing which you want - it just works! They pay, and the internet.. internets.

I mean, it's not like they hide it... https://www.zen.co.uk/advantage-partners/ Have you considered Martin @ Aquiss?

That's interesting.

I did consider aquiss 18 months ago, but Zen offered me a reduction to stay, and now the price gap between Zen and Aquiss is just too great. Aquiss are 20% more expensive than Zen on a mid-range contract. That's difficult to justify.

I switched to IDNet on the 13th, moving from VM's Gig1 speeds (1100/105 generally) to IDNet's Gamer Max package (speed tests showing as high as 2350/2350 so far).

Quality has been fine so far, but it is still very early days.

I have been on IDNet via CityFibre for 3 weeks now. I am on the 1200/1200 plan. Very happy so far. Excellent customer service. They told me that when using their service via CityFibre it will use the CityFibre backhaul.

What are the bundled routers like that iDNet supply ? Is it possible to block some devices from the internet ? Can you do everything through the web interface or do you have to use an app ?

My preference is to be able to do everything through the web interface. And I want to be able to block some 'smart' devices from phoning home, but I can't really be bothered to replace all my switches to configure a vlan. I know mac filtering isn't perfect, but for chatty rather than malicious devices its good enough.

I've been with iDNet for several years. Not the cheapest, but the service is great. The support line is fantastic, you get to speak to proper technical people right away (rather than trying to convince some call center muppet walking through a script, that you have an issue). They are great at getting OpenReach out if there is a technical fault.

They are ASUS. And while you may or may not like ASUS, they do have a comprehensive set of features. Personally, I like ASUS because many of them are supported by Merlin, so there is access to constantly bug-fixed versions of the firmware. Also a small number of additional features. They also have a friendly user interface for the not so savvy, like me. And yes, you can block individual devices from accessing the internet. I use that feature myself to stop my printer ordering supplies!!! And my Chinese toaster from contacting Beijing.
Oh, by the way, I think you have to take a 2 yr contract to get a free router. If you don't want a router then you can just get the 1yr contract.
