We have new Macs at college with OS X on them and they seem to have this browser too. Was it bundled in with OS X?

Its awful, I went to many sites and hardly any worked! My own one was ***** too.

How old is this browser? Is it as old as the PC equivalents IE 5.x?

iirc MS stopped supporting mac IE a few months ago and suggested people stop using it and stick to the mac browser

Sweet, thats the kind of news I want to hear. :D

Unforunately, I several people of who still use IE Mac. They're mostly older people who have used Macs a long time and don't really know any better. They are a minority but can be worth making sure your site as at least readable.

I may be wrong but from what I know I think Mac OS 10.2 had MacIE but no Safari, 10.3 had 10.3 and MacIE and then 10.4 had Safai only.

But yes its an awful browser and completly pointless as most mac's can run Firefox.

Thanks guys.
I wanted to make sure a prospective employer wouldnt be using it and would see my site in a broken state.
But it sounds like its unlikely :)

Augmented; thanks for the link, Ill check it out. :)

It's officially unsupported by both Apple and Microsoft and has been for over a year now. The only people who would still be using it are people so set in their ways they're still using OS 9.

On a development machine @ work, i am running 10.2 which included IE 5.2. I personal still provide an IE 5 Mac style sheet to fix a few bugs but the more you know its problems you can easily counteract them in your general CSS - i.e. always provide a width for floated elements etc...

Although it only counts for 0.07% of visitors for the site i work on, this can potentially be thousands of people, it really depends on your audience and its size for you to make the decision to support it or not.
