IE 7 update failing to install

Over the past few days i have tried to install this update....

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP (KB958215)

After each try it says the following update was not installed. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? All other updates have been fine just struggling with this one.

Try temporarily disabling your AV and any other active scanners?

Clear the WindowsUpdate cache/folder on your PC?

MS still not release quick fix patch for IE7 until after 6pm (GMT)...

Ah well. Have you tried the Windows Update troubleshooter? I vaguely remember getting an IE patch that wouldn't install on XP for some reason. I think in the end I hid it.

I think this is a different problem to the recently publicised IE bugs. The problem here is installing the patch.

Try Re-installing a new-download of IE7 from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3385-447C-8A30-081805B2F90B&displaylang=en

and then reinstall the hotfix. As it is a cumulative hotfix it should contain all the previous fixes too. I've run into this with clean installs and slipstreaming: the IE7 Cumulative Updates don't like being installed on top of one another for some stupid reason :mad:

Thanks for the tip i never thought of re-installing IE7. Do i just install it over the old IE7 or do i need to remove it first somehow?

Installing over the top is fine. As part of the installation process it will download the latest updates and run the latest version of the Malicious Software Removal Tool as long as you have a internet connection.
