IE to Firefox to Opera

I have made the switch from Firefox to Opera now. Firefox was annoying me, it kept timing out on pages for no reason - even Google. IE never presented me with this problem so I considered going back but I couldn't browse the web with ads again.

Along came Opera and I like it!

Speedy drawing, nice UI and stable.

Just thought I'd toss my thoughts out there if anyone else is tiring of/having problems with Firefox.

I've also moved from Firefox to Opera recently. For some reason, the latest versions of Firefox seem to crash more often than ever.
Opera is a cracking browser, however, theres a few very small niggles that I don't like. I hate not having Google on the Opera homepage (I could go to Google.co.uk, but then I miss out on my news feeds), and also, every now and then Opera seems to forget what it's doing and asks me how I want to open it up (Home page view, Blank page, Continue where I was last time).

Only thing that I really miss about Firefox is the extensions, which I havent managed to find for Opera yet :(

Cracking software though.

The only thing stopping me making the same move is that Opera still does not support Roboform (and Wand does no cut it for me).

Just goto Tools -> Preferences -> 'General' tab -> Set hompage in the given field then hit OK. If this is what you mean

This happens when you close opera without closing all the tabs first. A handy feature in my opinion, because if for example a software you just installed asks you to restart, you hit ok and it closes your browser and you cant remember the url of the page you were on when you reboot, Opera will do it for you. The 'Continue where I was last time' option will open opera with all the same tabs you had open when you first closed it.

Does opera have anything like firefoxs adblock extension ?
as thats the only thing stopping me from switching to opera.

Yep, just right click anywhere on the page and then select Block Content, click on the blockable content displayed and then Done on the menu bar at the top. After that you will never see the advert again. :)

I really like Opera. The only problemsI have, is that occasionally, flash and Java have slight issues. Also, I miss the firefox feature of being able to select a word on a page, right click and tell it to 'search in new tab'

Edit; And I wish they didn't add torrent support to the latest version, ive got Utorrent for that. I know I can disable that, but it still annoys me that its there in the first place.

Edit Edit; And I nearly forgot, one of the greatest features in Opera is the ability to quickly right then left click the mouse to goback, and left then right to go foreward. 'Z' and 'X' also do the same.

You can do that; Highlight the word/phrase -> Right click -> Then when you click 'search', hold down the shift key and it opens it in a new tab :)

Yep, possibly my favourite Opera feature. Have you found out about Mouse Gestures yet? Just another reason why Opera is the best.

The second bit makes sense actually. I thought it was just forgetting what it was doing :o :p

But about the first part, I mean the Opera 'home' page that it uses. The one that's somewhat similar to Firefox' home with the Google bar. I would have liked to have the Google search bar there rather than the one Opera uses.
Also, is there a way to set it up so that every tab I open automatically goes to the 'home' page?

Thanks for the info though.

You can double click the left hand mouse button on a blank page to bring up the home page.
Not entirely sure if its possible to open a new tab with the homepage. But double clicking hardly takes more than a split second now does it :)

I hate how it forgets what it's doing too. I have it on Windows & Ubuntu Linux, only the Windows version forgets what it's doing at startup

Whats all this 'forgetting' malarkey? Its not forgetting anything, its asking you what you want to do when you start it up after previously closing it while you still had tabs open. Like i explained before...

Aye I understood what you said before mate. Just a blonde moment on my part :o :p

Some of the features in Opera seem quite good. Guess I'll have to read up on it a bit more.

Does Opera now support those yellow security certificates?
Last time I tried to purchse something online in Opera those yellow security padlocks weren't there which scared me :(

I believe the padlocks are in the navigation bar in Opera. I've just tried to process a fake order and it's showing the padlock inside the navigation bar, which when clicked on, says 'Your communication with the server is encrypted. Opera has classified the encryption as strong(3)'
