IE7 installing differently

Anyone know what would cause IE7 to install differently on workstations across a win2k network?

My main gripe is that sometimes it'll install with tabbed browsing functioning properly and without the File, Edit, View etc menu showing, yet sometimes it wont - and i can't get it to change!

Please help...all i want it for IE7 to install normally!
 
More questions, sorry!

1) what exe file are you using to install IE7 and where you get it from?

2) when you say the tab browser functionality is working/not working, do you mean 'enabled/disabled' or is it broken somehow?

3) are all the machines you're installing to running the same OS, have the same version of IE?

I'll admit I don't know why one installation would be different from another, but problems like this usually have something to do with having different patch levels of the OS/IE/other apps between workstations, or some tweak that's been performed in the registry.
 
1) i'm using the ie7 installer from the MS website, downloaded a few weeks ago.

2) tabbed browsing - they just aren't on along the top of IE like normal. I've checked the settings and tabbed browsing is enabled. I've tried disabling, restarting IE, enabling it again and restarting again.

3) All running XP. The machines aren't all exactly the same in regards to patches installed though. Something i'm looking in to resolving at the moment - perhaps that's what's causing the differences...?


Is there a large download, Autopatcher or something, that i can install to all machines to bring them all up to the same patch level?

A couple of things...

1) Found this on Google, don't know if it applies to you...

- I have found the cause and cure. This is one worth noting for support
- people at M.S. since others may have this scenario.
- I looked into my (Power Toys) Tweak UI settings and found that for IE the
- "Shell Enhancements" were turned off.
- I had this setting since it prevented other things getting added to my menus
- and tool bars. For example when setting up AIM, AOl is kind enough to take
- liberties with your menus and toolbars in IE. Unfortunately it also
- eliminated some of the new functionality of IE7.

2) A lot of places it was mentioned that xmllite.dll is required for tabs to work, and there's a ms patch (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915865) that updated this file for XP SP2, maybe some of your PC's have this patch and some don't - just a shot in the dark!
