IE7 is fine for my needs

I was like that until a couple of years ago. I tried FF a few times but then went back to IE. I think it was when I started uni that I made the switch to FF. Now I wouldn't dream of browsing without FF.

Yes, it runs in protected mode unlike Firefox. End of discussion on the topic of which is more secure within Vista tbqh.

Do a bit of research on what protected mode involves, and then you will retract your statement above.
 
FF was good < 1 to about 1.5, 2 onwards is getting worse. I use a mixture of IE7 and Opera. Opera is ace when you can view the site in it just a shame that isn't very often

IE7 on Vista is the most secure browser so that alone is a good enough reason to use it I suppose. Also the most "compatible" I find.

Hasn't Opera been widely regarded as the most secure browser? I don't use it although I have pondered downloading it; I use Netscape :)

Does Opera utilise the sandboxing (IE7 calls it "Protected Mode") functionality in Vista? If no, it isn't the most secure.

i really couldn't give a monkeys about browser security. it's right down the bottom of my list of priorties (i used ie6 for years without any issues so i'm sure any modern browser is safe for me).

at the top of the list we have functionality. and firefox just cannot be beat on that front. :)
 
I've tried Firefox and Opera, along with IE7.....I use IE7 as main browser as it is the one I like most of the three, with Opera a close second.....

Firefox just doesn't float everybody's boat! ;)
 
IE7 for me is the best Internet browser to date; under Vista with protected mode turned on there isn’t another browser I've come across that matches it security wise. Like above IE7's problem is that it’s not customisable as much like Firefox, but the pro add-on helps it somewhat.
 
It's just personal choice at the end of the day. I like FF so I use that, The OP likes IE7 so he uses that, who cares?

Of course if the OP was using IE6 it would be a different matter. We'd all have to hunt him down and install the update/kill him just as a matter of course :D

That's interesting as I cannot get IE7 to stay in Protected Mode on this PC. Enable Protected Mode is checked (in securuty settings) but whenever I start IE7 it says it is 'Off'.

I have UAC disabled - Could this be it? I have 2 other PCs running Vista64 and IE7 Protected Mode is 'On' but UAC is enabled.

Are UAC and Protected Mode connected ?

Yeah I find FF to be more fucntionial, I was just curious as to how secure IE was.
 
Fanboys are a PITA, but everything has them - browsers and software houses included.

It's actually already being worked on for Moz2*, but that article implies that you can't write to %APPDATA% - is that true? Because it would kinda screw up access to the profile folder...

* not that as far as I'm concerned being able to run an app in a sandbox is the be-all as far as security goes, but it is a useful part of defence in depth.

Edit: by %APPDATA%, I mean %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Roaming\Mozilla etc.
 
IE7 here too. I like it :)







...I use Firefox Portable on a USB stick for stealth pr0n viewing though ;)
 
I use IE7pro at home, the only real gripe I have with it is the integrated download functionality is pretty poor (e.g. downloading large files takes much longer than it should due to it having to be copied from a cache afterwards).

At work I use IE6 for compatibility reasons.

I have been experimenting with Safari which seems nice and fast. Not sure if I'm ready to move to it full time though.
