Hi guys,

been stuck with this problem. Just migrated a whole school to windows 7 and users started experiencing problems with ie8.

Symptoms:
When you search in google and sometimes using other sites the tab just freezes. I can open another tab and start browse ok and am able to close the frozen tab even though it doesnt show anything. but then after a very short while another tab freezes. I can replicate the problem within google every time.

I have done some research regarding this issue and a lot of people are experiencing this.

The only way it doesnt crash is if I run it without addons. My first suspect was flash. Here is what I have doe so far

Tried so far:
Enable/Disable Flash HW acceleration - No effect
Removed Flash and Shockwave (including IE addons) - no effect
Removed Java (including IE addons) - no effect

The only addons still left in the list are Sohpos, Acrobat, Smart Notebook and one other which i cannot recall right now.

My common sense would tell me disable them one-by-one, but IE does not let me do it. buttons are greyed out. Only way to remove these is via registry but i wasnt sure if removing the keys manually will have an effect

Any ideas?

You migrated an entire school to W7 and you used x86..??

Anyway, for a quick fix try fix it, specifically this or this one. It's become surprisingly good over the years, although you're better off with a simple batch file for some tasks imo.

Any reason you've not put ie9 on there? I had this issue in the past and that upgrade fixed it with no effort involved :D

Thanks Guys

Using x86 because schools use a lot of old software that gets confused by the "Program Files (86)" and we have experienced a few issues.

I will give those Fixits a go. If one of them is successful any way possible to deploy them across a site or as an update? never looked into that.

Using IE8 because of a few web based products that are not compatible beyond that version.

In fact i have also noticed that Chrome tabs crash tho less often than IE. The only browser that works without errors is FF, But im not too keen to fiddle around with the community edition. Google Chrome Business is easy to deploy but also unreliable untill problem is fixed.
