This very much. I avoid IE like the plague as it's always riddled with stupid nonsense. I go between Opera and FF constantly, as they seem to handle things differently.

I love the sensationalised 'it's always riddled with stupid nonsense'. I'd say that about the comment itself actually. Why not put down the stupid nonsense it's riddled with?
As to the OP what operations was it slow at? If it's asking you to allow something then surely you should be thinking about 'why is it asking' rather than giving a 'allow all by default' approach.
I know, one of the things, is that when addons slow it down it warns you about this. It can be changed very easily and essentially turned off. But surely it's a good thing to be warned about.
For me the performance is fine, with TPL the adverts are taken care off.
If you really want a spell checker (though the fact that it googles / bings any thing you enter into the bar that it cant find kinda makes it pointless) then try:
