If AI is so good why is my Alexa so stoopid.

What's wrong with Android Auto? It works perfectly for me.
Like most Google products, it just deteriorates over time. Recently it decided I not only can no longer use voice commands to change radio stations, but can't use the UI either, so BBC Sounds is now useless.

Various bugs with UI controls.

Google Maps now deciding to bombard you with prompts instead of just showing you the bloody directions.... So switched to TomTom.

Voice recognition is generally dreadful, which is inexcusable given the state of the art AI systems.

Alexa has got worse rather than better. It’s extremely frustrating and we’re considering changing our home assistant. Lots of previously useful apps (Sainsbury’s, Hive) now don’t function well or at all. Even Spotify and music is poor.

Only good thing to come out of Google and Alexa is cooking recipes is fantastic as it just works well with voice as generally your hands are mucky and you can just say next step.

I absolute hate Google in the car when playing Spotify. I ask it to play some song and it always ends up playing some rubbish cover version instead of the one I actually want to listen too.
This.

Daughter "Daddy I want to listen to the lion king"
Me " Google play lion king songs"
Google......" Ok playing lion king in Chinese"

Not sure why but Google loves playing me songs in random languages to wind me up !!!!

It's garbage, ditto android auto, next phone will be apple, I'm done with Google.

I use Duck Duck search at the moment, which I believe runs off the back of Bing.

One thing I have noticed of late is that it's getting worse and worse at finding the results I want. It's stopped searching for what I type, rather it's now searching for what it thinks I mean, and it's getting it hopelessly wrong. It seems that almost every search I'm turning to other search engines to find what I want.

I also note that once it interprets what I mean (or thinks it does) then it tends to concentrate on that to the exclusion of all else, so it absolutely floods me with the wrong content.

Yes the whole Google ecosystem is a mess. Android auto is hot garbage, to the point I may actually switch to Apple.

I went heavily into Google home/nest.
Its the smartest pasta timer/light switch I've ever owned.
It's honestly seems to get worse every year.

I have Google Home, mostly because I got multiple units for free as a Beta tester.

So many features have been removed or dumbed down it's unreal.

Features that I used regularly like the calling from room to room no longer works. If you ask it a question "You need to allow for personal answers in your settings"

"Google Boost the heating" - > "Setting a timer called Boost the heating" etc

I have about 4 echo's around the place, mostly used for listening to music. But I use my office one for reminders quite a lot, and listening to various radio stations.

My wife struggles with voice commands sometimes, she doesn't seem to learn that you need to speak slow and clearly and ideally a pause after the wake up word. I never have a problem.
Controls my heating with it, weather updates, divides my dough weight when I'm making pizza dough balls, turn my bbq shack lights on, etc.

Tempted to upgrade the kitchen Echo to a Show version so kid can browse Spotify more easily with it.

I have one and you can only browse through recommendations based on the track that is playing, you can't search for stuff or go to your own playlists, music etc. Amazon are very restrictive in what they let developers do on Echo Show, there are no proper apps as such just standard cards/screens that they have to use. You might be better off with a Fire Tablet and decent set of bluetooth speakers.

I love mine, along with Home Assistant I have some great automations. Things like I can defrost my car in the morning just by saying "Alexa, heat car", listen to music in the shower and change tracks, listen to music while painting or working on the car with messy hands. The multi speaker room setup, reminders, timers, shopping list. I just find Alexa really useful. Right now I'm casting the F1 testing to an Echo Show.

We've had an Alexa for a few years now and im sure shes getting more senile and deaf in her old age. More than once we've ended up listening to a playlist thats a bunch of swear words after shouting at her. "Playing **** off you useless **** on spotify"

for how smart they are supposed to be Claude 3.5 the best programming model made a very amateur mistake until recently when it's probably been fixed.

It kept writing
import numpy
but for the code to work it needs to say "import numpy as np"

they often make indentation errors in the code as well and take multiple attempts to fix them.

AI are going to be full of fake news, like how people couldn't get them to generate images of Vikings etc without them being DEI.

Good to know thanks! Might not bother then.
