Do not buy a modular PSU.

They don't fit.

Get a normal "all cables out of one hole" PSU.

I now have an entire new PC, except PSU.

THe Hyper Type-R is a modular PSU, whilst being lovely, doesn't fit in the Lian-Li V1000's.
An Antec TruePower would fit though.

Just something to be aware of before purchasing, unlike me.

The v1000 is not a good case, it is all riveted in.

The v1000+ uses screws to hold all the bottom compartment sections in, and thus makes them all removeable.

Have you got a v1000 or a v1000+?
Sorry - I have the + version.

Yes, you can remove the baffle plate + HDD rack...
But then you cannot fit any more than 3 HDD's in without some ghetto modding.
(I have 4 in at the moment)

Fair enough if you only have 3 HDD's or less, but if you are using the 2nd HDD rack - Get a non-modular PSU. :)

The whole point of having a modular PSU is so you do not use so many cables, if you are running more than 3 hard drives you really do not have a use for a modular PSU as most of the connectors will be plugged in anyhow. :p

(but it was pretty.) :p

The main cables that annoy me are the 6 pin P4 cables, other random ones which are NEVER used.

OK, would use most of the molex cables, but the "never used these in me puff" cables would not have to be hidden somewhere.

Antec TruPower 2 ***.
For the win is barred. :o

you could always add the 4th hd into a 5.25 bay, using a 5.25 to 3.5 mounting plates

somethink like this

I was thinking of that, but also that I like the way the HDD's are cooled in there...

To cool a raptor properly in a 5 1/4" bay, the Vantec looks to be the only one with a crossblower fan - reasonable airflow and reasonable noise level too!
At £50 or around there.

Or spend £50 more on a non-modular PSU from a make I know better.
(Had several antecs, this was the first Hiper I have bought)

I have arranged the RMA of the Hyper to compeditor xxx and bought the Antec from here.
Next day delivery takes it!

EDIT - I like all 3 HDD's in the RAID 5 array to stay in the same place too - Makes things neater. ^.^

The Hiper PSU is dire, and I have a lot of people who will agree with me on my msn. :p

Ive had one, sounded like a jet after a month and then went on to die powering a ancient rig.

Who would get a modular for the V1000 anyway? The cables can easily be hidden in the bottom carpartment or behind the Mboard tray.

But yeah your right, dont get a modular psu :). Seasonic for the win!

Enermax Libertys are the best performing modular PSU's. Check out Hardforum and jhonny guru's review. Stable rails, quiet performance and modular cables!!

I ignore reviews, the Hiper got good reviews but they are shocking when you get your hands on them.

Best thing is to see someone with a comparable PC running one, and get the info of them.

I have a deep distrust of reviews, I think flanno summed it up brilliantly with his comment on the Stacker 830, and all the issues being missed by every reviewer.

im gonna be using a modular psu in a v1000b+ when i sort of the money for 1 :)

i spent a lot of money on my psu so im not gonna just change it for the sack of a new case :)

the way i see it the lesser cables used the better the air flow :)

O so true. Has two. First one went up in smoke and the other had a bit of plastic fall out of it =/
They are loud aswel. Although they do look very nice, lol.

I would have thought its pretty easy to get very neat cable tidying in a case like the V1000.

I've got Hipers in use in about 10 PCs and they're all fine so far. The only fault that ocurred at all lwas one of the cables had a short in it and fused the PSU if you plugged it in. But the 'soft' fuse reset itself and no damage was done.

I know that when Coolermaster bought Hiper they moved the production to another factory and the quality hit the floor, but mine are all fairly recent (got a fabulous deal from a trade-only distributor) and (touch wood) no problems so far.

I rate the Antec NeoHE 550. I know some models had some issues which were down the ATX 2.03 spec requiring each rail to be loaded with at least 0.1A before the thing would boot. The 550 is great though and while it doesn't sound like a lot of wattage is actually peaks at over 700w and can maintain 550w at 50 degrees. The FSP Epsilon 700 in contrast drops off 100 watts once it hits 35 degrees. The Antec is dead quiet too, modular, and handles 18a easily on each of it's 12v rails. Works fine with 2x1900xt's or 7900gtx's. I also like the Enermax Libery series, but the so called infinity connectors are annoying cause you have 2 molex and 2 satas on each cable.
