If i downgrade from SKY+ to Freeview.......

No you cannot, it'll act like a standard single tuner receiver. Webmonkeyuk is correct.

There used to be some situations where you could get it to work with certain cards, but they dont work any longer.

Hmm i thought it would retain the basic recording functions, looks like i would have been better off getting a non SKY hard disk recorder :(

So its either all or nothing, SKY really does suck sometimes.

Do old sky boxes have any use when plugging a basic arial in? Freeview etc?

id like to know this too. parents wanna get rid of sky as they keep bumbping the price up for the same carp programs repeated no end of times.

we bought our panasonic box from a shop a few years ago now so i assume we'd own the actual box???

That's the reason why I stopped subscribing last year as they put the price up 3 times in only around 9 months!
I know they were only small price increases but it was the final straw for me.

I used to have a Sky+ digibox and asked them if I could cancel my existing viewing package and whether I could just pay the £10 for the use of the recording feature?
Sky said no as I would have to subscribe to a viewing package so I cancelled

would be nice if the old sky boxes could be used to recieve freeview
Yeah but you can't really expect that to happen as Sky knows that most people would probably cancel Sky after their annual contract was up and use their digibox to pick up Freeview channels!

I now have Freeview instead and I would never go back to Sky even though I still have the old Sky+ digibox in the attic

1) Old ex-sub sky boxes will continue to receive all the free channels, just use your cancelled viewing card.

2) No you do not have to return the box at the end of a sub, after the 12 months it is yours to keep.

ah so if we just connected it up to the house ariel and left the old viewing card in the box, we'd get all the freeview channels??? or would it work if we left it connected to the dish???

Err, you'd need a dish connection :D

All I seem to be hearing these days are people canning their Sky services & going Freeview. Quite a few of my friends have done the same.

It's about time people woke up & smelled the coffee.

I for one have never succumbed to Sky's overpriced subscription services, incorporating repeats ad infinitum!

Even though the latest house I've bought has a Sky dish on the side of it.

It will be interesting to see what sort of rip off charges they can conjure up for Sky HD this April.
