If I upgrade to a GTX 280 will my cpu throttle me?

Hi guys, currently using a 7900GTX as I've been waiting for the REAL next gen cards for a while..and the 9800 disappointed big time..anyhow

CPU Intel Dual Core 6600

If I upgrade to a 280 should I consider a cpu upgrade too or will it not make too much difference?

Why have you not already overclocked it?? at stock speed it will be a bit of a bottleneck.

It should hit atleast 3GHz, it will be pretty decent then.
 
Err why don't you wait for some reviews first :rolleyes: As mentioned before anyway - I doubt it will make much difference (particularly as quad doesn't offer much for games yet).

Upgrade to what cpu?


Just clock it...

If you don't know how then post in the Overclocking section for advice.:)

Yeah I'm happy to overclock it - glad to hear its successors haven't made it obsolete yet =)

I have needed a new graphics card for a while - yes I will wait for reviews..and see how ATI's card fairs..but upgrading my card is long overdue!
