...it probably is. Right?

There's a listing on eBay - £300 for a Blackberry Torch (no link because I'm not sure if it would be breaking rules) but the catch is that they do not accept PayPal because 'there is a problem with their account.'

I know, alarm bells should be sounding at this point. The seller has an immaculate record as a seller and buyer though and eBay rules state every auction must accept PayPal, so even though they claim not to accept it, I can pay by PayPal anyway. My temptation if I were to buy it would be to pay via PayPal just to see what happens. As far as I am aware direct bank transfer cannot be reclaimed without Police or Small Claims Court involvement.

I understand it may be because the seller is tired of PayPal & eBay's exorbitant fees (I know for one that I am), but I'm at a loss as to whether or not I should do it. I guess there is part of this blackened heart that still thinks that there are good people out there every now and then.

Normally I'd just move on to the next listing, but it's my 21st today and I woke up in the mindset that I'd treat myself, being so far away from home and family and set myself a limit of £300 (otherwise I'd go mental and buy a new car or something on credit)...

...and yes, worst 'it's my birthday thread' ever. Beat you to it. ;)

If their rating is 100% positive then you could take the risk.

Do you have a credit card? Would give you extra protection if you used that.

Perhaps if you're based close to seller, you could pick it up, and see it in the flesh/test it before you wave goodbye to your moolah.

Firstly Happy Birthday :D

It does sound too good to be true as the Blackberry Bold are going for more than that, and the Torch is obviously released afterwards. Have you double checked its details to make sure your not buying the keypad for £300 etc, if so and your still worried contact the seller and explain for a fee of £300 you would prefer to use paypal and would this be ok. The last thing you want to do is click buy and pay into a system they dont use therefore losing £300 and failing to pay as it will probably result in a negative feedback on your part as it does state they dont like to use it.

I hope someone else with better knowledge of Ebay can help you :)

They're based in Plymouth, I'm based in Exeter, it's an hour drive so I suppose I could go and pay in person.

How would I pay by credit card if they do not accept PayPal? I'd be keen to use my CC as that does offer me protection...

Err, if he is a dodgy seller as you are afraid of, chances are when you go and meet him with 300 in your pocket he'll be waiting for you with a couple of friends.

Just find another gift for yourself. Too much trouble this one if you ask me.

LOL! True dat. And Plymouth is a bit rough for my liking as it is, never been given so much grief on a night out as I was in Plymouth...

Thank you for the birthday wishes guys, they are very much appreciated :D

If you have the extra you can buy the Torch from Argos brand new :) £479.99 (I know its quite a bit extra but you can have it on buy now pay later *wouldnt recommend unless your good at saving the pennies* ) There is also a £10 voucher offer at the moment so £469.99 :D

He should know better if he's a good seller. It's either a hijacked account or he's trying to limit your options on return and it's a fake / scam. On the other hand, I am the son of a rich Nigerian king who died and I need to get some money out of the country, could you help me with the matter?

Seriously, don't be so stupid.

Looks like your 21st is going to be better than your 20th!
