If one day you come into a fortune what PC upgrades would you buy? I had a quick browse and come up with these. :D

Intel Core 2 Quadro Extreme Edition QX6700 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.66GHz (1066FSB) - £763.74

Two BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB Silent WaterCooled GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail - £1174.98

Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8888C4 TwinX (4x1GB) - £939.98

Asus P5WDG2-WS Professional Intel 975X (Socket LGA775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard - £199.74

Total £3078.44

Daft question really. I'd say the majority of people here, given they had a silly amount of money to spend, would go for the very best hardware possible. And you have already named some of it :p

LOL

hacked drivers for sli??

Would like intel chipset above nvidia at all times for lga775, nvidia did a really poor job for intel, unsure about 680 tho, didnt see any esults yet with it tho (ocing results that is)

Mine would be core 2 quattro with phase mach 2 kit(if possible, more of them), heavily oc-ed to about 5 ghz...
Corsair dominator...
Mobo unsure... ( either 680 nvidia, asus workstation or them dual or quad cpu server boards...)
8x raptorX 150 gig - raid 0
8800gtx SLi
Galaxy 1000watts
additional 2x 750 gb baracuddas in raid 0 for backup from the raptors...
Nice 50' plasma + 2x dell 24'as main screens.
High end projector.
Nice 7.1 custom sound system with huge subwoofers...
Them lcd keyboards ( the ones with each button = a lcd screen).
A nice mouse wich is comfortable.
Saitek joystick (them with 2 of them and lcd...)
The new logitech racing wheel with 3 pedals and stick...
2 ps2 joypads for pc ( nice for pro evo 5, evo 6 sucks :p )
A nice gigabit internet connection wich the crazy japs have ( both 1000mbit up and down).
Ageia offcourse, 256 mb version...
Xfi platinum ( for nice clear sound to amp and extra input/output options together with a nice custom 7.1 amp+ stuff)
a lot of (next to 2 8800gtx's) gfx cards, pci if needed, for extra (touchscreen) monitors in bathroom ( for watching films or doign wsomething when ** sitting on the toilet), one for every other room the pc is not in...
all kind of stuff like remote controlls, wireless conenction, bluetooth ( so i can link up everything i would ever want to the pc)
A nice expensive tv card.
all fans : Dual bladed delta's ( no i dont care about noise, my total 10k w rms sound system will blast the noise away)
Some kind of smoke generator wich is made to work when smoke is ingame
The light system ive seen in a thread some time ago, with lamps or something in each corder, 3d lightning anyhow.
Them visual reality helmets... (if they exist)
The holographic projector i heard about on news some time ago, very expensive tho...
And theres more i'd want but atm it's getting late im going to sleep instead...

Ideally, i'd get a mainframe with about 400 cpu's etc...

You're not thinking outside the box enough. ;)

This is limited only by the definition of pc...

So how about a nice one of these. 16 core opteron and easily fits on a desk. :p

I've not idea. Not even sure if its on sale yet. Probably 4 or 5k. :p

On a note the nvidia 680 series of chipsets is actually better than Intels own chipsets this time round. They are quite excellent in terms of stock speed and overclocking. They currently hold the highest FSB for any C2Duo board.

Money being no object is silly, you could get anything, a uber modded pc with petabytes of storage, as many gfx cards as can be modded together, a two storey high video wall as your monitor... a rack server with as many cpus as you can fit...

Once I buy my island I'll spemd all the time kiteboardig and not be too bothered about games, so I guess if money were no object I'd have some sort of laptop for browsing ;)

In reality the 'ultimate' PC (£3K or so) is only bleeding edge for 3 months or so, in 6 months time it won'tbe much faster than a £1500 PC and at a year old it will be the same as a £1000 bargain thing and you'll be looking at upgrading at least some of it.

Personally I'd be speccing some solid state storage as well ;)

Somebody already sort of beat me to it but if money wer no object I would commision IBM to build m my own supercomputer that was SLI compatable. :p May not make much difference in games but in multitasking and DC projects it would destroy! :D

That just takes widescreen to the extreme lol, what could you realistically do with that!!

I would get a couple of them and play strategy games without having to scroll at all ;)

Could give you exercise whilst at your computer because you would have to keep walking along to the other end and that. :D
