If Quake was done today.

I still love Quake.. If they kept Quake exactly the same, and just did a graphical rework of it (so say same game but on FB2) it'd make millions!

Back in the day, all about what 'you' could do, not what the game can do for you:)

Gimme the days when it was all about the fun playing. Unlocks/achives, just not a fan, more just a man'o man:)

The thing is, if anyone released a game exactly like Quake today there'd be a lot of ****ing and moaning from reviewers about how it had all been done before.

If they released a game exactly like Quake with perhaps updated graphics it would be amazing, only casuals would complain. The point of the thread is showing what Quake would be like if it was done today for the first time, not re-made.

If Quake was done today, it would be exactly the same as it was when it first came out, Quake was the perfect FPS'er

That is the point, it wouldn't

Edit: We don't need Quake to be re-released. It's perfect today, even without modern clients. I still have, always have had and always will have glquake on my PC/Laptrop/Netbook ;)

Oh I do love threads like this.

I have to assume that the people who respond to them have never actually played an FPS since quake and go on what they hear from the wind about new games.

I also find it very funny that when anyone posts a video of Quake, it is always fast paced and very twitchy, when in reality, a good percentage of people who played it when it was new, didn't play it at anywhere NEAR that speed.

Nostalgia gentlemen, Quake is not "the best thing ever", it was good because it was new and fresh for it's time, things have moved on, we can now build games that are engaging, that are artistic and allow for a plot, anyone who believes we should go back to the days of running down brown (yes, quake was brown, this is nothing new) corridors firing directly in front of us at the same 5-6 enemies over and over again, you are the people with the problem.

Yes, modern games have problems but this kind of crap is getting us nowhere.

p.s, I understand the video is supposed to be a joke, ha ha, very funny, it's pretentious, unoriginal (hur hur) and made by someone with less imagination as the people the video is supposed to be making fun of.

The real irony is that the first level in Quake actually has centreprint messages saying "You can jump up here....", "You can jump across..." etc, which is the sort of thing they are targetting with their parody. Likewise the 'leaving battle area' type thing isn't really that different from getting gibbed if you fall off the edge of the map.

It was good because it was good... no more no less. For pure DM it still has not been bettered as a gaming experience. You may not have played it "fast and twitchy" but a hell of a lot of us did. Graphics may have improved but that's just eye candy and adds nothing to the experience. We used to play quite a heavily modded Quake with additional bots forming teams on players, absolute hilarity. Nothing I have played since has ever come close to that experience and that is a fact. Quake was a revolution at the time and will always be a landmark.
