My old s939 board keeps loosing the bios setting when power fails but it keeps the time and date correct. Ive bought a replacement batt for it, havent tried it yet, but I dont think its going to fix the prob, cos surly if the batt was knackered it wouldnt keep the time and date?? Oh yeah, its been like this since day 1 over 3yrs ago,
If the batt was dead, would it loose the time/date too??

You're quite right. The bog standard internal CR2032 cell is designed to keep your volatile CMOS settings - a very good example is the time. If it were to go flat or was removed, these settings would be lost.
In general, BIOS settings (not CMOS) are written to non-volatile flash memory. The only reason it would ever lose this is if it was overwritten or corrupted.

Ive updated and downgraded the bios meny times to try to fix this prob, but still the the bios keep on returning to the default settings when the power fails but time and date stays intacted... any idea what might be causing this if its not the batt?

I've seen boards reset to default when they think a non-default setting has caused a failure. It may be a "feature".
