If True.. Oh Dear Nvidia!

If Nvidia are in financial difficulty then surely it would be an idea for them to sell their products at a more reasonable price to stay in the meerkat:D Also, regarding the competition with the ATi company, who wants to pay £500 for a graphic card?
Best to keep the graphic card you got. I think.:D

Nvidia would make big losses on each card they sell if they do that.

Also I'm kinda getting tired of this borrowed card of mine.

It's simply poor journalist form. His style of language and his non-neutrality are terible attributes for any journlist to have, no matter what the field they're in. It stinks of unprofessional habits. Once you doubt someones approach (in this case clearly unprofessional) of course you question the accuracy of his information. If he doesn't even care about being inpartial why would he care about being accurate. You might think all reporting is biased, and perhaps a little it is, but this guy raises the bar to a new level. Iranian state media are less baised than this clown.

He can write what he wants, but if he wants to be taken seriously, and for people to have any trust in what he says, he needs to act like a proper journalist and stop all this childish stuff. I mean just look at the terms used in the first couple of paragraphs:
"under water", "dead", "whoop ass", "desperate", "dire implications"... he sounds like someone in a war zone, not some utter plank reporting on technology.

i agree untill nvidia say otherwise its all a load of bull

Sorry but, when did freespeech disappear, when on earth was journalism EVER unbiased, and what the hell is wrong with him voicing an opinion. Some sites post news, they don't post opinion, they don't LOOK for news, or dig, they simply get sent press releases and post them up on the news section. That is NOT journalism, at all, journalism is researching and looking for news.

Charlie uses overdramatic methods, but thats his style, he's allowed to write in whatever way he wants. But the fact is he got the tape out dates for the GT300, by calling and speaking to people at TSMC, he looks for info by contacting and talking to, manufacturers, OEM's and anyone else he can talk to.

He's one of the ONLY journalists to work in the tech industry. FUD posts press releases and linked, for years, to everything Charlie found and put up on the inq or now semi accurate.

I've never seen investigative news anywhere from any of these tech sites, except from Charlie.

I can understand anyone finding him annoying, I can find anyone capable of dismissing what he says. I can't understand people berating him for posting opinions, nor being one of the few people to not post press releases constantly.

Inq is nothing more than a product release news page these days, as are most of the big hardware sites. [H] isn't journalism, its just a link to every little story someone sends to his inbox.

Lastly, can someone link all the incorrect information he's come out with. Like for instance a lot of the Charlie haters laughing when he said Nvidia had product failures in massive amounts. Must have been incorrect, the 250mil Nvidia paid out to OEM's wasn't to cover failures, it was, obviously, a Birthday present to the CEO of HP.

For those that insist everything he posts is incorrect, it shouldn't be hard to find 2-3 stories that are completely wrong right?

As I said I can understand hating his style, this EOL story is actually consise and well writen, the story earlier that day was horribly obtuse and could have been writen infinately better, but that doesn't make the details incorrect.

Thats possibly the most stupid post your've ever done DM... i mean defending charlie of all things? Seriously??

He is not a journalist, and that is certainly not a well written article. All his "articles" are simply rants from a mentally deranged and obese american. Real journalism has no bias. He has more bias that even the most immature of teenage fanboys on these forums. His sole purpose is to dig up bad news on NV, either true, rumour, or just completely made up.

Some examples of his made up articles over the years:

1) NV are looking for a buyer (posted multiple times over the years. Regardless of NV making far more money than ATI ever have and having a far larger marker share)

2) PhysX is dead (posted multiple times again).

3) NV secretly sending out GTX 280 hardware disguised as GTX 275 cards to reviews, and selling 275's that are really 260's (really)

4) GT300 not taped out (when it was)

5) NV are going under (multiple times)

6) NV's new architecture is performs badly (posted for multiple upcoming NV GPU's over the years)

7) ATI cuts prices, NV DOOMED! ATI to get leading market share

8) The article this thread is based on.

There was a forum thread dedicated to charlies articles once, listing all his untrue articles, it took up a whole page... sadly i cant find it on google anymore.

I just want to add that i'm also surprised at the amount or idiots in on these forums. People actually believing this is true and some thinking NV will suddenly go out of business? Do you kids have any idea how much money NV make? If they wanted they could buy AMD/ATI. In size, resources, money, and market share, NV dwarfs AMD. The only other main player that is any bigger than them, is Intel.

But its just not, you'd have thought at least 1 person with a girlfriend would have bought into this stuff if it wasnt made up.

Also, Nvidia has 70%+ of the market share, we need that to go down to the 60's which will then increase drive of both gfx card manufacturers and make the fight more vicious - which is better for me as a consumer coz i get more technologically inovative products at lower prices.

What market would that be? Because if its graphic cards in general I think youll find Intel have the largest with the sheer number of onboard GMA adapters in laptops.

I dont think there is a specific "high end consumer graphics card" market...

Who knows what state NV are in after the turn down, their recent fermi press conference " complete shambles " is a clear sign they are going to do things differently. :o

Word from sources deep in the bowels of 2701 San Tomas Expressway tell us that the OEMs have been notified that the GTX285 is EOL'd,
I just looked at another well know place and they not even one 285 gtx left instock

So this could be true...

Hmm $61.7 million profit in the last quarter compared to £235 profit in the same period last year?

Revenues drop 20% and costs up 16%?

Gone are the golden years of only 2 years ago where thet made more than £800m profit per annum

Share price $14 from a peak of $36 in October 2007?

Since their "fake" launch last week, their share price has fallen 10% yet AMD has risen by 12%?

Yes nvidia are still a beast and very powerful yet now has a market value of less than double that of AMD whereas not so long ago they were worth 3 to 4 times as much as AMD. Doubt they could buy AMD today, perhaps 2 years ago they could have.

Nvidia won't go under but this quarter will hurt profits and perhaps so will the next one.

There may become a time when AMD and Nvidia are equal in worth/value soon.

The reply from nvidia sounds like all there other reply's until they are caught out. Imo what nvidia says is a little like charlie to be taken with a pinch of salt. The same pretty much goes for any company in tough times.

I do agree, we need proper proof, if this news were to be true would that mean companies like zotac would struggle? My mate works as a support tech, would be bad news for him

you pretty much described 90% of the users in this forum.

There really are some idiots around here who can't bare to hear anything that isn't positive said about nVidia.

Duran, go away please.

When people who go "lawl ATi is teh suxxor, they can't even rite driver is like and they are hardware never work is properly" (yes, that is a dig at people not being able to use punctuation properly)

call people who say "I wish nVidia wouldn't play so dirty" fanboys, you know who the deranged mentally challenged people are.

People who complain about nVidia very very rarely mention them in comparison to ATi, yet STILL get called ATi fanboys, this logic completely fails me.
