If upgrading SSD am i best replacing the heat shield that was originally on?

I replaced the SSD in my Dell G5 5500, would i be best replacing it with a new one, or is using the one that was on fine?

I guess the original one did have some indents from the original SSD, but would heat make the thermal pad shape to the new SSD?

If it fits it should be fine. As long as there’s contact to the chip I would say but it might be best to take a photo and upload it.

It’ll be fine as long as the thermal pad hasn’t dried out and lost its ability to absorb heat

I’d also not really stress with a heatsink unless it’s a high end SSD that you’re hitting with a lot of I/O read and writes.

I have two WD SN850X SSDs which don’t have a heatsink and never get warm enough to need one.
