..only 1 drive to run your OS, firewall etc from which would it be and why?

It would be for startup and core programmes only, no games or ripping apps etc.

Just curious as to what people would choose and why.
 
It reads a bit like you are narrowing down the options so that a Raptor is the obvious choice: no budget, limited amount of space required/available, fast - only remaining downside of it being thought of as comparatively noisy since the expense is taken out the equation.

If money was an issue then a WD 250gb AAKS would probably be my preference or a Seagate 250gb 7200.10 such as I have just now, both drives are very quick, offer a lot of space and are fairly cheap for what they offer, not to mention mine is inaudible for me.
 
300Gb 15K RPM drive on a SCSI 320. Thats if cost isnt an issue :)

I like my raptor. Seemed to me to be a lot more snappy than my 320gb drive when going from XP to Vista.
