If you could NOT copy games, would that make them cost less?

ahh the days of uni where u could watch/play any show/game within 20 mins of thinking about it! (lusernet where art thou now?!)

i know of very few people with modded hardware these days, and even fewer who have the nouse to d/l and burn their own games.

but they are all frugal and wont spend on many games either...although they do buy the odd GTA, or MGS or FIFA

some are still playing Tiger 04!

It has always been the case across just about every platform. Off the top of my head we had copies floating about on even cartridge based consoles (thanks to some rather clever hardware tricks from China).
It is more of a shame that MS have so far been unable to combat it, especially considering the nature of the Live network etc which is the killer app so to speak. I think without the ability to play copies on Live it would suddenly seem less appealing. Original Xbox had a better time than this IMO, at least there was no live play with a chipped machine.
Who knows, it may be that they are just gathering intel before dumping the entire lot of them off the live network...

Yeah but most people who have hacked their 360's have used a firmware flash type mod, not a chip. From talking to a mate of mine earlier there is a similar thing on the original xbox, allows ppl to play 'backups' but they cant do all the other stuff like custom dashboards and xvid playback. However, he said that if you get an original xbox and ONLY apply the software modification (no chip) then it still works fine on live.

If this is true then anyone who has done this on 360 may never be stopped. That will no doubt harm the industry, the reason internet crime is so rife is that its a type of crime that goes unpunished and thus ceases to be regaurded as crime at all. I know police officers who download music from limewire ffs

PC Games always cost less because with the Console games the companies have to pay the licence fees to Sony, MS, Nintendo etc for the games, which ups the prices, where as on the PC there is no licence fee to pay .

was thinking this as well as the fact that they have no direct money to recoup from r&d and selling the hardware at a loss or having to pay for this indirectly via the license fee if they are a third party

One way to cut piracy down would be to ditch staged releases of DVD's, games etc

Sucks that movies in states are out MONTHS before here, same for some games though less of an issue now

Personally I think the prices would be what they are right now.
Games have gradually risen in price since I have been into computer gaming to a point where they are roughly double what they should be based on inflation costs.
Software piracy was pretty rife in the schoolyard (hurrah for high speed dubbing LOL) and I hardly knew anyone who had the same game as anyone else as an original on the Speccy or C64.
Today I know VERY few people with a chipped console or a copied game, simply because its not as "Joe Bloggs" as it used to be to make a copy and get it running on your machine.
IMO piracy is simply the excuse that the software companies use to grab £40-£50 a shot for things which are worth about half that.

Yes but we paid £35 a game for new master system cartridges and I never met anyone who could copy them. They never used piracy as justification then. Plus that was 1988. Nearly 20 years later and at most I'm paying £5 more. Thats a bargain considering how everything else has gone up.

The reason the psone made sony is because everyman and his dog had one that played copied games. If the 360 was as easy to do and the ps3 isnt, then 360 will outsell the ps3. I'm the only person I know in the flesh without a hooky ps2, and thats because I dont use it and have no desire to use it.

For me it destroys games, not from a finalcial perspective but from a gamers. I used to buy 10 games at a time with the psone. I never really got much enjoyment out of them I just skimmed them. Obviously I'm not going to name the person on here who I think plays dodgy 360 games but most people have an idea. He's played over 20 games and unlocked next to **** all in any of them. That to me suggests getting games because you can rather than because you want to play them.

Good luck to them I'm not pro or against it. I think it damages the gamer as much as the games companies.

Just my 2 cents.

I don't think pirating games affects enjoyment of them it certainly didn't affect my enjoyment of the final fantasy series when they weren't avalible in the uk.

I think its good that piracy is around it keeps big companys on there toes and keeps prices down

Why should i pay £50 for a game that overseas costs 50% less both games cost the same to make and both games make the same profit in the respective currency

Is it my fault the pound is so strong?
Why shouldn't i be able to by things cheaper over seas

If big companys want to stop piracy they need to have a proper look at there margins and treat all there customers around the world fairly

And they also need to look at quality control of there games £50 for gears of war... ok fair enough can see where my money has gone.
£50 for Fifa road to world cup...i can see i am being ripped of

until big companys show respect for me and my hard earned money then i will not show respect to them and continue to visit Manchester market stalls and importers

Just my 2 cents.

I think you out of order to think that i have played loads and loads of 360 games and have very little achievments for them does that mean i play pirate 360 games?

NO WAY i just rent and borrow them from online sites and friends....

And another thing not every one has the time to play all there games through but a lot of people have the money to buy all the games they want.
Just because you only get games you play through doesnt mean people that dont are pirates

Just my 2 cents :)

Your a mentalist, I didn't even name you. I wasn't even talking about you but you have just about admitted that you have a modded console.

Hahahaaaaaa

Why is that i dont have a modded console?

I just felt your thinking was off hand i wish i did have a modded 360 but i love it too much to risk any damage to it

Trotts off to play halo 3...........;)

i wish microsoft could do something to stop pirated games on the 360.
if you go on the net now you can get a copy of every 360 game.
i see today you can even get gears of war and its only out in america today.
it can only do harm to the console as developers will start to think its a waste of time spending years making a game just to see it pirated.
it could turn devs to the ps3 as it will be much harder to make copyied games because of blue ray etc.
Well the Xbox 360 can have it' DVD drive flashed to another firmware thus letting you played copied games, it's ridiculously easy to do also I can't believe they let it slip.

Even more funny is apparently they can't do anything about it (Nobodys been banned for it off Xbox Live for 8 or so months since it started occuring)

Now the newer 360 consoles being sold you can't do the hack on apparently.
