If you die in a dream, do you die in real life?

Does anyone else, just before you properly fall into sleep, get a quick flash of something like falling and before you hit the ground wake up with a start. Well, sort of wake up since you're not actually asleep yet, in the stage between awake and sleep? :p
Yeah I get that, so annoying. One time I did it in the minibus during my school trip to St Ives, my mates terrored me for the whole trip :o :(

Most of the time if you die in a dream you just wake up or change dreams, I can only really remember that I died once and it was one of those shocking experiences but once I did I entered a void which was black and timeless like I was there for both a long and short time, I had no body or senses, it felt quite weird and not very dream like.

Yep, I posted about it in another similar thread a while back :) . Must be pretty common.

Almost anyone who can lucid dream would be able to kill themselves in a dream and strangely enough feel fine afterwards...
And the falling feeling which ends in a jerk is called a hypnic jerk and has nothing to do with your heart stopping :s

I have woken up a couple of times, in the dream I was falling. Then in real life you wake up with a jolt.

Hurt my toe by kicking a wall in my dream, turns out I kicked the side of my bed :o

I've been shot, stabbed, run over, fallen off a building and woken up. One time I experienced life as a ghost after dying.

Oh and getting shot in a dream really bloody well hurts when you wake up.

I've been stabbed to death in a dream. the only thing that woke me up was a weird sensation where i had been stabbed :S what was also weird was that i was surrounded by toilets when i was stabbed.
after i 'died' in the dream i thinki i remember seeing myself (dead) from another persons POV

Someone should have put "(Freddy Krueger films, possible spoiler)" in the title of this thread.

I don't think you can but I've always woken up before the inevitable happens.

In dreams I've died, been tortured, slowly mangled, had sex with many beautiful women, had sex with many ugly women, fallen from great heights, flew, been turned into a jar of jam, snorted cocaine and eaten my own eyes. On waking, I found none of it to be true. Occasionally to disappointment.

I remember reading that when your in a dream where your falling, or any other situation where your getting killed/dying, its your body going into such a deep state of sleep that your organs start to "sleep" too (I'm aware that they dont actually sleep but medical details might take a while on here :p). This is also why you get that funny sensation when you fall in a dream.

And apparently, your bodys automatic reaction to stop this is to just jolt you awake, which is why a lot of the time you'll actually just shoot up and find yourself awake sitting up in your bed or just suddenly open your eyes and awaken.

Leading onto the next point, where if you do hit the bottom or get killed in your dream, your organs have already started to shut down and your already dead

Of course how they tested that one is beyond me

Scientist: "Right I think hes finished dreaming, hey buddy, did you get killed in your dream?"
Test Patient: "......."
Scientist: "Bugger, I guess he did, Oh well theorys correct then"

For arguments sake, namely the OPs, people die before they hit the ground from a large fall can't they?

Soooo... could the shock from a really bad dream not be the same kind of 'omfgarghh'?

:D

Dammit, not the best thread to be reading just before I go to sleep!

I'll just think of being surrounded by sexy women from now until I drift off, hopefully that'll help!!

I remember a documentary I watched once about dreams and how one guy said that "if you have a dream that is so vivid and you think it is real, then you have Astral projected to another plane, and if you wake up with a jolt then it is your projected self returning to the body"

He also went on to say that, it is how he travels, as he actually leaves his body and travel to other places. I don't think it is true, but he gives classes and lectures to people on how to leave there body and travel to other planes of reality.

It is real, and it does happen.

A few folk here can/have done it, myself included.

Its not a million miles away from Astral Projection.
