R.e the torque wrench comment - I wouldn't bother when you're first starting out. If you're doing anything that requires you to take the head off or to put in new manifold studs / bolts etc then yes buy one but for changing discs / pads etc I really wouldn't bother.
I thought that way until one day I sheared a couple of m6 bolts in an intake manifold. Those things snap ridiculously easy.
